Description

The Nextbase 112 features a G-force sensor that's meant to save a video clip when the camera detects a crash. This is about the only optional safety feature provided by the 112. The other capability worth mentioning is Parking Mode, where the device will use its G Sensor to detect motion and trigger recording. However, the built-in battery is only rated for 30 minutes, and although the unit isn’t recording all the time, it won’t last a very long time in this mode. It certainly won’t protect your car whilst left in airport parking for a week. Nextbase 112 – Image quality

Regarding the recording lengths, the camera will record continuously in small segments (1,2, or 3 minutes). It will record these segments consecutively until the SD card is full. Then the oldest piece of footage will be deleted and the newest will be saved in it's place. This will continue looping and is called Continuous Overwriting. The Dash Cam does this automatically to allow for more footage to be recorded and the old, unnecessary footage to be deleted without manual intervention. However Protected footage is not overwritten in the same way. These can fill the card and reduce the quantity of normal footage saved on your SD card. In theory, an HD camera should offer enough detail to make out licence plates. But note that we've had our hands on dash cams that shoot at superior resolutions - Full HD, 2K, Quad HD and 4K. Please be aware that formatting the SD card will delete all the data on the card, so if you wish to keep any footage, please copy this across before you start the formatting process. 3. The G Sensor also has three sensitivity settings, as well as an off mode. This comes into play to detect sharp movements, which then triggers marking the current video recording as an incident. This means it won’t be overwritten during the looping process. a) Before you start, you'll need to mount the SD or micro SD card on your Mac. If you have a Mac with an SD card slot, use that. If not, you’ll need an SD card adapter. It is essential that you format your SD card every 2-3 weeks to delete the Protected filed and free up space on your memory card for new recordings. Low light performance isn’t particularly impressive either. Unless you are driving in very well-lit night conditions, you probably won’t be able to make out much detail. Again, there’s not a huge amount of noise or grain; the video is just very dark and you can’t see very much.smart home devices, get directions, find parking, and more— all while you keep your hands on the wheel and eyes on Starting this weekend, Lidl will be selling a budget-priced Nextbase dash cam as part of its Middle of Lidl sale. But was this affordable dash cam worthy of Best Buy status when we put it to the test, and is this actually a good deal? Keep scrolling to find out more. MyNextbase Connect turns your Nextbase Dash Cam into a fully connected smart device whilst allowing you to easily edit and share your videos. Unlike many other devices, the power cable actually connects to the mount itself rather than the camera. It uses a micro USB port on the side of the mount and then plugs into the auxiliary/cigarette lighter port on the car itself. It means that, unfortunately, you may find yourself unable to use a GPS alongside the camera as these tend to utilise the same port to power themselves. However, if you’re someone who uses a smartphone to navigate anyway, this won’t be an issue.

Its compact design makes this the perfect accessory for first time drivers, power goes directly into the mount, meaning that the dash Cam is free from wires and the camera will automatically turn on when you start your vehicle and off when you stop. Perfect to provide instant video evidence whilst on the roads. Honestly, it’s impressive how much the Nextbase 112 gets right for its incredibly low cost. Despite it’s understandably low image quality the user interface makes sense, the mount works well and the G-Sensor functions as intended. We don’t want to say you shouldn’t buy this device, but there is one caveat. b) Stop it recording by pressing the red circle in the bottom left hand corner of the dash cam's screen. One obvious indication that the 112 is a budget device is the video resolution it uses for recording. Where the 512GW boasts 1440p resolution, the 112 drops right down to 720p – 1280 x 720 pixels. This is basically a quarter as many pixels, so you won’t get anywhere near the detail, even under the best of conditions.

For recording during the daytime, this Nextbase model is just about passable - you can make out number plates from five to 10 metres away. Things get a little ugly when the sun goes down, though, with the Nextbase 112 suffering from a drop in sharpness.

If you don't have your smartphone with you, still-photo support on the Nextbase 112 lets you snap a picture at the press of a button. So you’re looking to hop onto the dash cam wagon, but you’re short on cash. Very short. So short, in fact, that only the cheapest of the cheap will do. Where do you look? Whilst the answer to that question may have eluded you before now, we’re happy to inform you that you’re already in the right place. Again, the low resolution reduces the value of this feature, with clear evidence of artefacts including stair-stepping of diagonal lines. The image has also been stretched horizontally. This car is nowhere near as long as it looks in this picture. Virtually any recent smartphone will outperform the 112’s still image abilities. Why buy the Nextbase 112? The device, rather unexpectedly, also comes with a parking mode. This uses the G-Sensor to detect an impact even when stationary, and switch on the device’s recording mode to (hopefully) catch a glimpse of whoever or whatever hit your vehicle. Unfortunately, the battery life of the 112 is only around 30 minutes, so it will struggle to stay alive long enough to make this mode really count. With inbuilt G-Sensors you can be sure that any impact recording will not be deleted and 120 degreewide angle lens it really is your own independent witness in full 720p high definition. You can tinker a little with the auto-exposure settings, switch audio recording on or off and even input your licence plate number that is watermarked onto the camera’s footage. All of these are quite neat, if simplistic – far more than you might expect from a device of this price.
