Description

Juliette, the main character throughout, is a strong compassionate and full force of a female character. She fights with her emotions and her mentality thinking that she is what everyone's called her her entire life. A monster. Except for one person, Adam Kent, who didn't believe this to be true.

The rest of the book is kind of a blur because I read all three one after the other and can't seperate them anymore (thank Goodreads for this three book thingy). I knew something was wrong with that kid from the moment he was shoved into Juliette's prison and I don't mean the plot twist in the first book. There was also some action in this book but not enough to outweight the star-crossed lovers stuff and Juliette's near constand crying and inability to get better (both psychologically and powerwise).I colpi di scena, seppur pochi, ci sono stati e sono stati parecchio inaspettati e di grande rilievo. Juliette, one of the main characters and whose point of view is in every book in the series, can fend for herself. Thank god! Juliette knows how to get a job done and doesn’t need someone to constantly swoop down and save her, unlike in a few other series I’ve read. *cough cough* Twilight If you are a fifteen year old girl you’ll like them, but as an adult, I cannot fathom how other grown women can read this and say It’s good. It’s not. It’s wildly immature. I’m not saying this because it’s a YA series, I’ve read PLENTY of YA books that absolutely captivated me. Books meant for a much younger audience even. But these? THESE? Shatter me is the worst series I have ever had the displeasure of reading. They’re immature and childish because the writing doesn’t know how to handle itself. It doesn’t understand who its audience is supposed to be. It doesn’t understand the narratives its taken on. It doesn't understand its characters or plot. the characters are amazing, they are super funny and have a lot of personality, you will fall in love with them.

Adam was Juliette's only companion in grade school before she was abruptly thrown in the asylum. After some time they're reunited under strained circumstances. He, an undercover agent for the Reestablishment, her, his assignment. She immediately recognizes him, and while he knows full well who she is and she makes him feel can't let her or his superiors know of these feelings. After some time they escape and learn more about each other and themselves than they were prepared for. Causing a strain on their relationship that took them by surprise. But the worst thing of all is the fact that abuse is lauded as romantic in these novels. Warner may hurt Juliette and be forgiven for it time and time again all because, beneath his terrible acts, his motives are supposedly based in the fact that he loves her. Nevermind that time and time again his love is portrayed as selfish and only insofar as she benefits him. Castle is the father figure. He is the founder of Omega Point, a resistance group in sector 45. Kenji was his first recruit raising him from the time he was 8 after he ran from the orphanage. Castle takes on a huge responsibility for every member of OP and he enjoys his role. He struggles with being a leader and a personable figure taking on too much of everyone's problems, and can't seem to keep things in line with all these new guests.

He really loves his mom. Warner, seems super harsh and cold-hearted, which he can be, but never ever when it comes to his mother. Warner goes through so much to try to get his mother well and puts her before people’s opinion of him. The first time we see him cry is when his mom died and it was heartbreaking. So much action, finally, FINALLY badass and strong Juliette, so much Warner (though I have to admit I was kind of sad that he's really just a good guy in disguise and that Juliette made him so much less cool). Which is where I'm going to critize the world building. I get that Juliette apparently wasn't interested in figuring out what exactly was going on with the world and the Reestablishment, but it did feel wrong for her to not ask for proof when Castle told her that the world was, in fact, better off than they thought. Or for her to never again show any interest in why she has the power she's so afraid of.

Tahereh Mafi is a great author. Seriously, her writing style is amazing and her characters three-dimensional, believable people. Shadow Me: Kenji's perspective. The everything-is-cheerful-when-he's-around guy of the series.. has a dark secret?Kenji, Juliette's BFF, is a high spirited jokester. He keeps things light when everything around him seems to be doomed. While his character is displayed as mostly surface level antics he is a deeply empathetic person who struggles with his emotions.
