The material on this site may not be reproduced, distributed, transmitted, cached or otherwise used except with the prior written permission of The Digital Bits, Inc. While the film has drawn plenty of acclaim, it has also been met with plenty of backlash over the decision to cast Fraser (who wore a prosthetic fat suit) rather than an actor with a similar build to Charlie, as well as accusations of fatphobia over the film's premise. A reclusive, morbidly obese English teacher attempts to reconnect with his estranged teenage daughter. Other sound effects of a wheelchair rolling around, birds chirping, and pages turning sound fantastic.

Extras will include 2 featurettes ( People Are Amazing: Making The Whale and The Sounds of the Sea: Scoring The Whale). Ambient noises in the surround speakers bring to life the rain, thunder, and Charlie's movements around the house. As his health worsens he contacts Ellie, who comes over to see him at Charlie's request, spewing hatred every chance she gets. For more about The Whale and the The Whale Blu-ray release, see the The Whale Blu-ray Review published by Jeffrey Kauffman on March 12, 2023 where this Blu-ray release scored 3.It's not all sunshine and roses with beautiful swells of music and large embraces, but rather vomiting from binge eating, severe heart palpitations, and tears of extreme sadness. The interplay among Charlie, Liz, and Thomas offers insight into all three characters as the knowledge that Charlie is fighting the clock to gain redemption creates suspense. He’s incapable of the most basic activities and can’t even lift himself off the couch, get into bed, or answer the door without heaving himself onto a walker. Neither are terribly exciting but had they been left out, people would be even more upset by a Blu-ray release without ANY extras.

The Whale's official synopsis reads: “A reclusive English teacher suffering from severe obesity attempts to reconnect with his estranged teenage daughter for one last chance at redemption. She is establishing herself as an actor to watch and she adds a formidable presence in this small, ensemble cast. Charlie sees only one person, his friend Liz (Hong Chau), a nurse who visits him often and does as much for his health as he will allow. We’re all working on more new disc reviews here at The Bits, including myself and including 4K titles. If you have the setup and a big enough TV screen and good vision it’s pretty simple why cinephiles want films in their best possible presentation.
