This is the story of how I came to understand I was born a Witch, and embraced the Christianity I was born into. We hold fast to the moral guidelines of Christianity, while also incorporating witchcraft's focus on nature, cycles, and the potential for personal transformation. Fifty years or so ago, around the Summer of Love, I was born the first son of two in a typical lower-middle-class family in the rural center of America’s Heartland. Allen Cross tweeted out some advice for white people who want more BIPOC speaking and teaching at their “magical witchy” conferences.

Christianity was seen as something “good” and derived from “God,” whereas witchcraft was viewed as “bad” and derived from “Satan. In times passed I would have been in a lot of trouble for saying "Christian Witch" like it's a thing. Anytime someone performs something supernatural outside of the power of God, it comes from the power of Satan. The idea that only white Europeans can practice witchcraft based on the revival of gods from pre-Christian, white, European culture grossly disregards huge swaths of witchcraft practitioners in the Caribbean, Asia, Africa, Central and South America—many of whom blend Christian theology with indigenous magical practices.

I feel a pull and connection to elemental beings, the fairy folk, and mystical beings, so I don't think the Christian Witch path is 100% for me. More importantly, you don’t have to practice divination, mix potions or keep a grimoire to practice witchcraft, just like you don’t have to go to Sunday school to be a Christian. But if you want to read about one woman’s spiritual journey and how she found freedom in drawing from different traditions, I recommend this book to you. I feel like Nature was checking me out, and perhaps as a result my kinship with animals—especially cats—runs deep. But we also shouldn’t be surprised if there’s pushback from those whose identity is predicated on this equivalency.Jesus as the male god did make sense, but Mary I could not connect to, as it just wasn't in my upbringing to give all that much attention to her. Many suspected that I might be Gay, though only a few were open-minded enough to worry or delight in what I might be. After sitting down with an acquaintance after a Bible study I had been going to for close to a year, I was shown all the abuse I was under going.

My maternal grandmother was of the mind she was reincarnated and had psychic abilities…So…at the tender age of 5, I was forming my own understanding of the mystics…. There was great uncertainty in distinguishing practices of vain superstition, blasphemous occultism, and perfectly sound scholarly knowledge or pious ritual. com, the Sell on Etsy app, and the Etsy app, as well as the electricity that powers Etsy’s global offices and employees working remotely from home in the US. As Chireau notes, Black American author and ethnographer Zora Neale Hurston observed that Hoodoo practitioners viewed Moses as a powerful African miracle worker and the greatest conjurer. Some adherents of near-east religions acted as mediums, channeling messages from the dead or from a familiar spirit. A great deal of our folk magic is christian based and the pagan branding makes us and our magic feel unwelcome.
