Description

The Woman in the Library is an unexpectedly twisty literary adventure that examines the complicated nature of friendship - and shows that words can be the most treacherous weapons of all.

The mystery is clever enough to keep us guessing, though I did wonder how the person who stole a phone had a good enough photo of the owner to open and use it (facial recognition). You believe this guy because you want to, because for some reason beautiful, intelligent women seem drawn to dangerous men—” He stops short as he realises what he’s just said. I just finished the audiobook and listened to the last chapter multiple times to see if I’d missed something.Ugh, it was definitely a bummer to have so many cool twists and then leave the book feeling confused! This sort of instant intimate friendship is rare but then they are bound by the scream in the library and what appears to be a turn of events that solidifies but also threatens their friendship. There was once near the middle where my attention flagged, but that was remedied all of two pages later. And then you have the sections at the end of each chapter, the letters to Hannah, the author writing this whole story, which add an element of mystery and suspense as well.

First and foremost, we are introduced to Hannah Tigone, an Australian best-selling author, who is writing a new mystery novel. Her unique style of writing “The Woman in the Library” was fantastic as at first, it was a bit confusing with “letters” at the end of each chapter but as I kept reading, it was all finally starting to make sense. Sixth in former New York City newsman RG Belsky’s mystery series featuring Channel 10 news director Clare Carlson, Broadcast Blues continues to deliver. It also ends rather abruptly, and with there being two characters named ‘Leo’ but who each work in different ways towards the two plots, the ending really left me adrift.
