Description

No more chasing after your baby's sun hat in the wind or trying to stop it from flopping over their eyes! This all-covering, high-elastic sun hat is designed with a stiff brim and a chin strap to keep it perfectly in place atop your little one's head. While the Islander is a great all-around sun hat, it's not the best technical performer. This isn't a light hat, either. At 6.2 ounces, this is one of the heavier hats we reviewed. However, we found this hat to be extremely comfortable, even at this heavier weight. We didn't notice the weight when wearing this hat all day, but the gram counters may want to consider a different hat to bring on their next ultralight adventure. This is an excellent choice for those seeking a good-looking, comfortable, all-around great hat.

The good news is that most toddler sun hats are designed keeping traveling parents in mind. These sun hats either fold flat or roll up to fit perfectly into a diaper bag or stroller bag, and eliminate this issue entirely. Style A baby sun hat is the best sun protection you can offer your baby when playing on the beach or even on a hike (in a hiking carrier). Of course, a baby beach tent, stroller sun shade or the canopy on a hike carrier will offer the most protection, but you baby won’t always be under cover. The next best thing is to cover your baby up! Choose a breathable toddler sun hat with mesh vents or holes for ventilation to help keep your toddler feeling cool, dry, and happy. No parent would want a baby to get exposed to much sunlight during hot summer months. But, surprisingly, not all parents invest in the best baby sun hats. Some of them prefer to use regular baby hats, or they may improvise with anything at hand. It isn’t right for kids because standard caps are not designed to give the necessary protection from the scorching sun that babies needs.

Because we know that there’s nothing like a real recommendation from a real parent, we first headed to the Mumsnet forums to find out which sun hats discerning Mumsnet users had bought for their children. We compiled a list of the sun hats they recommended for being practical and staying on their kids’ heads.

If your toddler is easily annoyed by accessories and extra things, then toddler sun hats with chin straps might be a good option for you. In our experience, the chin strap was a must for our toddler to leave it in place.

The Kids' Play Hat is close to perfect, but it's not quite. It has a very rigid brim, which is great for protection. However, that rigidness in the brim carries inside to where the hat meets the head. This is less comfortable than some hats with a softer brim. Also, this doesn't have a liner, which would have made it even more comfortable than it already is. Overall, this is a great hat and a favorite among all our testers, both kids and adults. Look for sun hats with mesh vents or holes for ventilation to help keep your baby feeling cool, dry, and happy. Always keep a close watch on your little one to make sure they do not overheat as babies are not born with the ability to regulate their own temperature. These straps are essentially two pieces of fabric or string that extend down the sides of the hats and connect under the chin to help keep the hat stay put on your toddlers’ heads. This is an ideal feature for fiddly toddlers and windy days. Our toddler wearing his sun hat on a hike.An important factor in choosing the best toddler sun hat for maximum sunburn protection and prevention is the fabric used to make it. This is because little ones need adult supervision at all times when they are out in the sun to protect them from overheating and the effects of the harsh sunlight. Our suggestion? Measure and calculate your baby’s head diameter and subtract it from the total width of the sun hat. Then, divide that by 2 to arrive at the brim width. Yup, we did the math and came up with a formula for you – you’re welcome. The American Academy of Pediatrics says that a sun hat with a 3-inch brim is what children should wear, but it just so happens that most manufacturers online simply do not list the brim width as a detail in their product descriptions. This unfortunately leaves us guessing by the pictures provided. While crucial when it comes to functionality, it can occasionally prove to be a little difficult to maneuver. The issue arises with young ones who have yet to develop the dexterity to loosen the ties if they really need to, and toddlers, on the other hand, who find nothing more entertaining than tugging on the dangling strings under their chins! This hat wins our Editors' Choice for Technical Use for being the highest performing and most versatile of the bunch
