An outstanding single malt, gently matured in American white oak ex-bourbon casks and finished in rare, Oloroso sherry casks. Dalmore 1990 20 Year Old Signatory Vintage Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 70cl, 59.1% ABV Older bottling of Dalmore 12-year-old was the sole constituent of the distillery's core range until 2002 when the Cigar Malt and 21 year old were a...

That’s pretty much what the press release says. A shorter explanation would be that this Dalmore was finished in ex-Oloroso and ex-Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. That’s a decent interpretation, right? Dalmore 12 Years Sherry Cask Select (43%, OB, 2020) Margaret’s father passed away in 1859, leaving behind insurmountable debts. Her brother, Charles, had made an equally woeful attempt at running the distillery, failing to balance the books for more than four years. To make matters worse, Charles had been selling whisky below market value in a desperate attempt to bring money in. The matter came soon came to a head. Dalmore distillery closed down and poor Margaret was declared bankrupt in 1860. You are responsible for all activities through your account. Basil Hayden Malted Rye Whiskey Assessment - Tasty Bites Journey on Old Maysville Club Rye Whiskey Review Commonly referred to as simply “ The 12,” The Dalmore 12-year-old single malt is the opening selection from The Dalmore’s Principal Collection. Alongside 15-, 18-, and 25-year-old expressions, the collection is rounded out with the revamped Cigar Malt Reserve and King Alexander III non age statement releases. Additionally, The Dalmore offers ever increasingly rare and accordingly more expensive whiskies in their Constellation and Legendary Releases series, along with travel retail exclusive bottlings. The Dalmore 12 Year Old stands as a testament to intricate maturation techniques. Initially aged for 9 years in ex-bourbon casks, this single malt whisky then embarks on a distinctive journey. Half of the spirit rests for an additional 3 years in Oloroso sherry butts, while the other half continues to mature in bourbon casks. These two halves are masterfully brought together, resulting in a harmonious symphony of flavours. Nose: A warm coffee house in Seattle; roasting beans, the oily nuttiness in a fine espresso, there are little notes of malt and cereal and butter from the pastry counter with rich orange from the fruit bowl on the counter. We may sell, license, transfer, assign or in any other way dispose of the Service (including Members) to any third party without any notification to you, e.g. (but without limitation) in connection with any reorganization, restructuring, merger or sale, or other transfer of assets. The nose begins with big bold notes of Sherry and vanilla, with some dried fruits, spices and chocolate.

To me The Dalmore sits in a bit of a strange place in the Whisky world where newbies (like myself) look up to it, collectors flip the bottles and Whisky enthusiasts look down on them. The only other bottle that fits into this category could be Macallan which is slightly more well know due to appearances in film and television. Wonderfully tasty, oily and balanced. The sweetness is there, complex sherry notes invite you to linger on the tongue, without the malt being an outright sherry bomb. With nuttiness, crème brûlée, some truffle chocolate Dangerously tasty. Not going to bore you with recollections of "front nose this, and body taste that, notes of blah blah, pretentious exposition to make me sound sophisticated...", f`ing yawn. It's a good scotch is you want something mild. Smooth and enjoyable. Definitely for those who prefer a scotch with little to no peat/smokiness. It's also light on the bandage taste as well, which is a bonus for me.It’s quite clean and structured. Some whiskies feel like they’ve gone from cask to bottle with minimum interference but this has the precise feel of the blender about it. Overall though, I found it to be well balanced with reasonably good depth of flavour and fairly pleasant to sip on.

If it took me on a steam train journey through the hills and lochs to get me to the pineapple upsidedown cake, which sadly wasn't lightly christened with any cinnamon, nutmeg or dusted chocolate that I so wanted to experience from this, I'd have probably marked it higher than the Lagavulin 16, which I scored an 8.5.
