Description

Many people think that Special K cereal is quite healthy and will help you lose weight but the reality is different. Whilst the original Special K has the lowest sugar content, it also has less than 1g of dietary fibre. Fibre is essential to maintaining a healthy digestive system and the British Nutrition Foundation recommends an adult should have 30g of fibre a day. The only positive about Special K is the added vitamins and minerals which offer some health benefits. The ‘Pinch an Inch’ campaign, created in 1984, is described as one of the most disheartening commercials you’ll ever see. We’ll let you come up with your own verdict; watch it here.

As you will see from the table above, Special K Original cereal fits between Corn Flakes and instant oatmeal when it comes to the amount of carbs it contains. But unfortunately, it has the most sugar out of all which is not naturally occurring – it’s added, processed sugar with no nutritional value. On a chemical level, adding protein, fiber, and/or a source of fat to your meal can enhance glycemic control — essentially helping your system digest sugar more slowly, and preventing blood sugar from spiking after the meal," explains Pasquariello. "For most traditional cereals, there's more sugar and less protein, fat, and fiber — so the chemical effect would be to spike your blood sugar a bit more." That said, occasionally consuming traditional cereals won't present an issue unless you have prediabetes, diabetes, or another chronic condition that requires managing your blood sugar, she stresses. Keep in mind that oatmeal will keep you fuller for longer due to slightly more protein per 100 g and more fibre. So Quaker Oatmeal is our winner if you are looking for a healthier start to your day. Is Special K good for weight loss?

Reducing the amount of bad fat in our diets is always a good thing, but it is worth remembering that some low-fat foods will have high amounts of added sugar in them as unfortunately, it is the sugar (or fat) that makes many cereals taste so good. Protein

The Protein Grain Touch of Cinnamon Brown Sugar Crunch Cereal is one of the alternative Kellogg’s Special K protein cereals available. It may be a mouthful of a name, but this wholesome breakfast cereal is delicious warmed up in the winter months. When you consider that 10g of sugar is the equivalent of 2.5 teaspoons of sugar (which has no nutritional value) then Special K is maybe not as healthy as you thought it was. Fibre Just remember to swap your skim milk for a plant-based alternative, such as almond or cashew nut milk. Is Special K Protein Cereal Keto? Special K Original Protein Cereal isn’t classed as a keto-friendly breakfast option as it is a processed food that is high in carbs and other unhealthy ingredients such as BHA/BHT and sugar, although it isn’t overly sweet. Is Special K Protein Cereal High in Protein?Kellogg’s Protein Breakfast Cereal contains 3 grams of fiber. Crafted out of fiber-rich shreds and lightly sweetened Special K flakes, this is a great option for those looking for a tasty, high-fiber, healthy cereal. One serving of Special K provides over 20% of your daily fiber requirements. Low-risk: The Special K diet doesn’t require you to go long periods of time without eating or to eat questionable supplements or products. It’s a relatively safe diet to follow for the short-term only. Finally, a great-tasting cereal that is gluten-free! Doesn't create healthy habits: By following a short-term diet or challenge with specific meal replacement products, you’re not establishing good-for-you habits or learning how to incorporate healthy, real foods into your diet for the long-term. Day 7: Special K cereal with milk; carrots; Special K protein bar; blueberries; ropa vieja with rice What You Can Eat This product is both nutritious and delicious and is made with high-quality ingredients, including rice, lightly sweetened wheat, and soy flakes. For best results, team it with a protein shake. Is Special K Protein Cereal High in Fiber? NEW EAT STRONG PROTEIN RANGE

For an added protein boost, Kellogg’s have created a Special K Protein cereal, which provides 15g of protein (which rises to 22g when served with ¾ cup of skimmed milk) making it a better option to help top up your protein levels. Calories However, it’s still better to opt for a different type of cereal or go for a bowl of oatmeal with some fruits and nuts as a topping. In this way, your body gets much more nutrients without the added sugar. The healthiest Special K option would be the Original flavour as this has the least amount of added sugar, however, you should know that there are much healthier cereal options out there when it comes to sugar content.
