Description

Including a comprehensive filmography of his best and not so good films, this booklet covers a great deal. The film world allows the viewer to feel a heightened sense of excitement and participation with the fictional characters.

Caine, because his book is so honestly and efficiently helpful you can tell his intention is to educate and improve the art, not blow smoke. Caine uses humor and personal experiences from the start to the height of his career to impart knowledge about the do’s and dont’s of the acting business.Learn from two-time Academy Award-Winning actor Michael Caine how to properly prepare yourself for a very competitive field. I bought this book a few years ago when I was cast in my first film role, to prepare me for working on set, to understand how movie making works and what my role would be, what working with other actors and film crew would be like.

He has tips and tricks when it comes to acting, but he truly just teaches you how to be a human in this industry. Acting students attending auditions now might face a completely different landscape when it comes to auditions and getting parts. I did very much enjoy what Caine had to say, even when I did not understand what he was talking about. Sir Michael Caine, CBE was born Maurice Joseph Micklewaite near Elephant and Castle in South London. Although he makes several references to other actors' bad behaviors, the only person he names by name is Anthony Quinn.Five stars for Gary at Quantum Leap for solving my compatibility issue and teaching me a new trick with my player. He talks about entering sets where he only had one line to speak, waiting for hours to say that one line and that many stars on the film sets could be very arrogant and refused to talk to anyone below them.

This new revised and expanded edition features great photos throughout, with chapters on: Preparation, In Front of the Camera - Before You Shoot, The Take, Characters, Directors, On Being a Star, and much more. At the time he is watching a pornographic film that has his school girl niece being taken advantage of by corrupt adults. The close-up camera he tells us can pick up the minutest fluctuations in emotion and magnify them hugely, the close-up camera misses nothing, he says, it registers every subtle change on our faces and in our eyes, which is why he says actors must master it, or their performance will not be believed by the audience. Caine describes the vast differences between theatre acting and film acting, and the importance of the close-up camera. I had to take breaks (which I attribute to the time I've spent away from reading books as frequently as I used to; it takes more effort than it used to require when I was younger to get through books now), but overall, this was an easy, fun, and insightful read.

I remember viewing this when it was originally broadcast by the BBC, so it is good to be able to own a copy. He tells you about competitveness bewteen actors that some thrive on, but he does not like to be competitive and does not think it helps his acting career to be like that. The advice given had even more resonance as it was written by his all-time favourite, Michael Caine. The author also goes into the importance of professionalism and behavior on and off set with members of the cast and crew, as well as the Do's and Don'ts of how to deal with troublesome actors and directors, as well as dangerous stunts.

Concise and clear writing, this is a relatively short read expounding on Michael Caine's experiences with acting on film v. If anyone is interested in a recommendation, Bobbie O'Steen's The Invisible Cut: How Editors Make Movie Magic seems like a good start, although I'm still reading the first chapter. I actually have no imminent plans to appear in a movie, so I didn't really need the advice given here. After you see it, you will look at acting in films in a different way, and notice little details that separate great actors from good ones.

I bought it for my 15 year old and expected him to say it it was dated - and, sure, it is - but the little tips and tricks that Caine delivers to his young student actors (including a young and posh Celia Imrie) are exquisite. This book is easy to read and full of interesting information about acting, the film world and technical information as well as personal stories by Michael Caine. An instalment of the six-part BBC Acting series, this drama masterclass led by Michael Caine looks at the art of acting for the big screen. In this book actor Michael Caine describes being a leading actor in films, he says that his job is the carry the entire film and give life to the filmmaker’s vision.
