Edwards Award, Phoenix Award from the the Children’s Literature Association, and many more, which captures the attention of more and more young adults. Many of the flashbacks in the novel refer to the Great Depression which was an effect of the Wall Street Crash of 1929. stars but as I couldn't give it that, I've given it 4 stars because it definitely leans more towards four than three on the star spectrum. Now, so many years later, as I listened to one of his books that I hadn't had the pleasure of reading way back then, it's so amazing to identify a lot of my own style in his writing.

Francis is considered to be a hero as his actions during the war saved the lives of others, but the reader is asked to consider if cowardly actions can result in heroic consequences. You get information from him through the form of flashbacks and you discover his dark pass and why he ran and joined the army at age sixteen. This book is about a 14 year old kid name francis cassavant that goes to war and loses some of his face.Nicole Renard the one who francis falls in love with she comes from Albany , New York and Francis tell her that she's the most pretty girl from the whole world. When they run out of conversation topics, Francis asks to see Nicole again, and she declines and leaves. The building was closed and then repurposed as a community center by people hired as part of a municipal program created by the “New Deal” during the Depression.

Over the course of the book we find out why Francis has it out for this man and get a glimpse into his life before the war, and his short-lived relationship with a girl from his hometown who he was and continues to be in love with, Nicole Renard. He narrates the story in a series of flashbacks, after throwing himself on a grenade to supposedly save his fellow soldiers in the war. As I mentioned above, when I first read this novella, I was expecting great things, and ultimately didn't think that I received them.Joe LaFontaine speaks about how the government would be willing to pay for his college education and intends to become a teacher. The story is told in flashbacks of Francis’ childhood and his innocent romance with his classmate, Nicole Renard. I know Cormier can be dark, but Heroes was fantastic, moving, and thought-provoking, and I would read it again.
