Cons-Whilst I love the mix of textures including firmer ones I know that could be problematic for those who spread it round on the floor/use it as bedding or have especially small animals. If you want hay that your rabbits are going to actually eat then this hay gets all of our three rabbits' approval.

If your buns haven’t tried it yet, we’re sure the Burgess Excel rabbit range will soon become your rabbits’ favourite food! or by courier - and we have range of couriers available, so please just let us know if you have a preference. If you’re at all unsure about the best way of feeding your rabbits or have any concerns about specific nutritional requirements, ask your local veterinary practice for advice.Founded in 1917 by animal welfare pioneer, Maria Dickin CBE, PDSA is the UK’s leading veterinary charity. All animals love to be treated with care and affection and serving them with healthy food is oneway to do that. Besides saving on concentrate, hay has a higher protein stability than grass or silage, which means that more protein reaches the small intestine without detours and is available to the animal, thus reducing metabolic stress.

Feed your pets a minimum of their body size in feeding hay every day alongside Burgess Excel Nuggets, fresh greens and fresh, clean water. Rabbits need to keep their digestive systems busy with a mix of two kinds of fibre moving through the gut at all times. Having fresh, irresistibly tasty feeding hay every day is an absolute essential for rabbits and it should make up the bulk of their diet. From high fibre baked treats for hand feeding, to herb and flower mixes that promote foraging behaviour, the Excel Nature Snack range has something for all rabbits. Your rabbits will love chucking this around and then ripping it open to get to the feeding hay inside! A high spore count in milk makes it impossible to produce hard cheese from raw milk, which is why most hay milk is used in cheese production. Junior rabbits have a higher metabolic rate than adults, so look for a junior rabbit food with a higher protein level. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice.

The only downside is that you have to be careful pulling the stuff out, it is possible to accidentally cut yourself on the sharp hay! The fact it is so tightly compressed can/could make it difficult to remove if you have hand/joint problems as it is tightly packed and the firmer pieces alongside the packing may cause minor scratches which could be problematic for those with certain health conditions who have bleeding conditions.Suzanne is a small animal vet who spent many years in first opinion practice before joining Burgess Pet Care. Quality aeration hay is on the same level of ingredients as first-class grass silage, but more of the hay is eaten (dry matter), which can save expensive supplementary feed or increase milk yield. Excel Nature Snacks: Natural snacks – such as our Excel Fruity Feasts – can be fed in small amounts either by hand to help bonding, left in housing to keep your rabbits occupied or sprinkled through the hay to encourage foraging.
