Depending on what you want to get out of this book that could be great but it could also be a little confusing for those who are wanting to learn to pattern cut as a hobby.Pattern Cutting Ruler - I use the Pattern Master ruler because I find the size covers most outfits I make. I draw lines down my side and take measurements seperately for back and front and use those to draft the front and back seperately as opposed to using the full bust, waist and hip measurements as in the book. The last bit is CAD led design which is useful if you’re heading into the industry but if not then you don’t need this section!

However, the instructions are structured in a way that can be confusing if you’re new to pattern cutting. I've also found it's super helpful to mark on your waist, hip, knee and elbow lines on each piece as these will come in handy if you're adjusting the fit later on; this means making sure you mark them on your block patterns too.

My other criticism here is that the bodice block is drafted without any waist shaping, this is added as an option at the end of the section and isn’t done in the clearest of ways. The fifth edition continues to offer an introduction to the principles of pattern cutting, with a range of good basic blocks and examples of their application to garments.

It's set out clearly and simply but professionally and has a big range of form and flat blocks for a huge range of patterns plus adaptions and it's right up to date. The actual content is great and it fits in my handbag which is AMAZING compared to other books of its level.
