Sarah Lancashire stars as Catherine Cawood, a police sergeant in a small town in Yorkshire where drunkards, drug addicts and teenage pregnancies are a way of life.

In the summer of 2016, series one of Happy Valley was released on Netflix in the UK and is currently repeated on the channel W. The DVD includes two discs, featuring 351 minutes' worth of footage, and has an age certificate of 15. Six-part BBC drama starring Sarah Lancashire as a police sergeant investigating a ransom plot that has escalated beyond control. In series 2, while investigating a case of sheep-stealing, Catherine discovers the decomposed body of a murdered prostitute who she later discovers is the mother of Tommy Lee Royce (James Norton).Her world is turned upside down when the man she believes is responsible for her daughter’s death – Tommy Lee Royce – is released from prison. The first series began on BBC One on 29 April 2014, the second on 9 February 2016, and the third and final series on 1 January 2023.

In the third series, Catherine is on the verge of retirement when the discovery of a murder victim leads her back to a still incarcerated Tommy Lee Royce.Taking place seven years after the events of the second series, Catherine is coming close to retirement age and has plans to go on a hiking expedition to the Himalayas. She is convinced Tommy is dangerous and it’s only a matter of time before he hurts someone else… Series 2 Catherine Cawood is back heading up her team of dedicated police officers in the Calder Valley. It won the 2015 BAFTA Award for Best Drama Series, and won another BAFTA for Best Drama for the second series.
