Description

The Philips OLED807 certainly has a lot of competition this year - but we’d say it has more than enough unique qualities to stand out from the crowd.

DCI P3 is a color space, introduced in 2007 by the SMPTE. It is used in digital cinema and has a much wider gamut than the sRGB.We also didn’t get on with the new Ambient AI modes, especially in the way they tend to make pictures look excessively dark, leading to a loss of shadow detail, if you’re watching the TV in a dark room. So you should turn these off.

The OLED807 is Philips' top dog for 2022 (so far). It features an OLED EX display that promises 30% more brightness compared to a standard OLED, not to mention the firm's top picture performance and gaming features. Stunning 4K HDR picture on an OLED screen. Immersive Ambilight technology. This Philips TV unifies these technologies for amazing entertainment at home, all powered by the brand’s P5 Picture Perfect Engine. Ambilight technology emits ambient light around the screen to match and enhance the on-screen entertainment, while Dolby Atmos sound combines with Dolby Vision HDR for a thrillingly cinematic watch. A host of streaming services is available through the Android smart platform, with Google Assistant built in for easy voice control. OLED EX (anacronymof 'Evolution' and 'eXperience') uses deuterium gas and proprietary algorithm-based ‘EX Technology’ to boost brightness by predicting the usage amount of each individual diode based on your viewing habits. This apparently enables the screen to 'more accurately express the details and colours of the video content being played'. Philips’ new OLED807 is the first to adopt the new, brighter OLED EX panel and also uses the latest 6th gen P5 AI image processing suite. Percentage Luminance drop at 35 degree horizontal angle from the centre of the screen with 50% white output

Scores

Philips has got its Game preset input lag time down for the OLED807 to 15.1ms with 1080p/60Hz feeds. That’s still 5ms or so higher than the fastest results we’ve seen this year, but you’d have to be a more competitive gamer than us for 5ms to make a serious difference to your performance.

A new version of AI Auto Film Mode expands the number of smart picture modes from the original two to seven when movie content is detected, giving the viewer more control over how they’d like their film experience to look - these options still include Filmmaker Mode. For sound, the best options are the Original and Movie modes. Original is best suited to regular TV content, which it reproduces clearly and faithfully, albeit with a touch of sibilance at the top and a little boominess in the bottom. A new Aurora feature even lets you combine Ambilight with a selection of ‘screen saver’ videos and images, ensuring that your TV could remain an attractive centrepiece to your living room even when you’re not actually watching it… assuming you don't mind the extra energy use. The pixel pitch shows the distance from the centers of two neighboring pixels. In displays, which have a native resolution (the TFT ones, for example), the pixel pitch depends on the resolution and the size of the screen. The 24-inch 5537 is similar to the 6706 (above), except that it's not 'smart'. It does have a built-in digital tuner, though, plus a couple of standard HDMI ports.
