Una historia de fantasía gótica que es un poquito difícil de comprender al principio debido a la cantidad de personajes que se presentan en pocas páginas. Poco a poco se van ubicando mejor todos los personajes y las dos familias principales. I am not a regular reader of manga, but as this series has to do with Richard III, I figured I would give it a try. The story line is very loosely based on Shakespeare’s plays Henry VI, Part 3 and Richard III. And if you think the Bard plays fast and loose with historical facts, wait until you read this. Silverman, Rebecca (31 January 2022). "Rose White, Rose Red: The Real History of Requiem of the Rose King". Anime News Network . Retrieved 31 January 2022.The best point in this series for me, though, is Richard and Henry’s relationship. I really feel for them, and think they could have a real friendship or romance, if their lives were different. They get to spend some real time together in this volume, and it’s a sweet reprieve for both of them. I want more of that, honestly. Mateo, Alex (15 September 2020). Retrieved 1 August 2016. Edward, now king, enlists Richard to guard the secret of his affair with Elizabeth Woodville. Alone in the woods, Richard has an unexpected encounter that raises unsettling questions. I'm not intersex, so I can't at all speak to the depiction of it that Kanno presents here, but I'm dubious of it (to say the least).

And when Henry says he can “finally kill him,” in the end he became Richard, helping him love himself, and killing King Richard the Third in battle. It makes sense and I hate that it does! Henry finally does die, on-screen this time in one of the final panels so there's no doubt about it this time. Truth be told I don’t know whether I can’t stop thinking about it/it doesn’t sit right because I love Henry too much, or because it was a bit anti-climatic in a way. I don’t know, all of that foreshadowing led me to believe there could've been more done with that arc, maybe a little bit of both. But in the end, it did make sense. Richard it is implied would live to see another day, based on his promise to Catesby (who did get a semi-happy ending!!!) but wow, just blown away by this ending. I love full-circle moments and will forever hold this series near and dear to my heart. Aya Kanno really did deliver when she said ‘full circle’, because wow! There are scenes, poses, and dialogue, with Richard and Henry that are so similar to volumes 1-7. The emotions this made me feel. I don´t like political intrigue when it´s too superficial, if you cannot see through the motives of the traitors and such. - but here everything is easy to follow. And let me just say that Aya Kanno reminds me once again why I write my own stories; to create the happy endings I want and have certain relationships resolve the way I think they should be. But seriously, I don't think this could've ended any other way, and my love-hate relationship with the author rests in a peaceful surrender.Im not sure about the numbers, but I finished the manga and call me crazy if you want but I Like it . The other characters are also very well-developed, with each of the main characters' brothers having obstacles in their way, and many problems that stands in their way from thriving. Le Requiem du Roi des Roses: Richard III chez Ki-oon!" (in French). Éditions Ki-oon. 5 January 2015 . Retrieved 27 December 2020. The plot gets more complicated when Richard's beloved father attempts a coup d'etat to claim the throne during the Wars of the Roses.Things become rather violent at times, so if you have a weak stomach you might want to avoid this manga. Pineda, Rafael Antonio (7 June 2021). "Aya Kanno Finishes Storyboard for Final Chapter of Requiem of the Rose King Manga". Anime News Network . Retrieved 7 June 2021.

I’m also quite in love with the drawings. There’s something eye-catching in the androgynous look this Richard sports—not what I’d call handsome, but attractive in his own intersex way. I’ve got quite a bit of catching up to do, but this story feels so perfect. Of course this is villainous Richard, as in Shakespeare, but he is a much more complex and nuanced character. In a way, it’s a commentary on Shakespeare’s Richard, but this character, who is intersex, also reflects the knowledge that comes from the bones of the historical Richard III, described as “gracile” or feminine in structure. It also approaches the story from a different angle, showing Richard as cursed but also running into problems with all the women he encounters, starting with his mother, who rejects him, and continuing with the monstrous Margaret of Anjou.

A fanbook was published by Akita Shoten on 16 March 2022, collecting character information, tribute illustrations, and manga previously omitted from the bound volume release of the main series. [89] Reception [ edit ] The 3rd son of Richard Plantagenet of the Duke of York, alongside older brothers Edward IV of York and George of the Duke of Clarence, Richard seems like your typical kind of birthed son and sibling of the family, that according to its claims of being superior to the throne of England according to cognatic primogeniture (a male-preference succession to a female member of the House taking over the throne only if there weren't any male offspring) but inferior according to agnatic/patrilineal primogeniture (where inheritance is given according to the seniority of birth among kin, mainly sons before brothers and with both females and matrilineal (tracing through female kinship) males), would result that he would eventually rise to the throne, but not after both of his brothers Edward IV and George get their succession phase before he does. The problem (as is inferred) is Richard's intersex or hermaphrodite (son of the Greek god Hermes and the goddess Aphrodite) nature, whom looks like a male but has both sexes' reproductive organs where he can act as either the male or the female, and the closest of people interpret him in both ways, which his mother Cecily Neville of the Duchess of York (Richard Plantagenet's wife and the mother of the Yorkist sons) dubbed him as a demon of the worst kind. Day and night, Cecily would protest her hatred in Richard's face and memories, reminding him of his needless existence, that's only supplemented by the French warrior woman Joan of Arc's inclusions appearing in his visions to torment him, based on the belief by the English that she is a witch.
