I am very fortunate in that my stories come to me fully formed – a whole book kind of whooshes into my head so all I have to do then is write it down. All my books are rooted in my own experiences or reflect some element of my life, but are written with the volume turned right up, so for example in What Have I Done? I knew what it was like to live under the cloud of control in a relationship, but had never actually murdered anyone!

The Sunrise Sisterhood: The perfect uplifting and joyful book

Very strong female characters and it's nice that the story is told at times from all three of their points of view. Aaaaaaagh! I don’t like choosing! …but if pressed, I would have to say Clover’s Child. It is set in 1960’s London and I loved spending time in that era, plus it takes place in my Nan’s house so it feels familiar. The heroine Dot is one of my favourites and the story is probably the best example of the old adage; “you can never tell anyone’s story by looking at them”.The Promoter reserves the right at any time to cancel, modify or supersede the competition (including altering prizes) if, in our sole discretion, a competition is not capable of being conducted as specified. Boys, we know this is probably feeling less relevant to you right now, but we also know you care about the women in your life, so please keep reading. Mike’s first daughter Clare, from his marriage to Jen, is also planning to spend the summer with Liz. A single mum to baby Ivy, she is looking forward to the break. But when she arrives to discover Skye is there, sparks fly. The half-sisters have always resented each other. Every single character goes through a lot during this book and all develop in their own ways. I loved Clare and Skye and how their relationship grew, and I adored baby Ivy! The most questionable character was definitely Mike, the sisters' father, who constantly dismisses them and pursues increasingly younger women. There’s never a good time to write a book. Are you waiting for that moment when you’re in a log cabin in the snow, tapping out your novel possessed with inspiration? That moment won’t come – so the best time to start writing is probably now. You make time. An hour a day for a few months is how many well-known authors got writing.

Liz’s story and how her grief was still so raw and how it was so tangible, yet she was so strong and the matriarch of her best friends family. You’re on record as saying you’ve had food issues over the years. Do you identify with Lexi? Or do you identify more with Freya? You seem to understand them both so well.I am so glad! I love Lexi too. I think her spark, her energy and her fearless nature makes her the little girl I was before I realised that the world didn’t love me unconditionally the way my family did and I stopped singing in the streets, saying exactly what was in my head and became conscious of my appearance.

At The Novelry, we’ve just launched a new online writing course: The Big Idea course. This is aimed at beginners – authors who know they want to write a book, but don’t know where to start. Maybe they don’t even have an idea yet, or maybe they’re not sure that their idea is “the one”. We help with that on the course, but maybe, if this is you, you feel daunted about the prospect of starting out – and in that case, let me share with you a few tips. I really, really enjoyed this. I can’t recommend it enough - you will finish it with the biggest smile on your face and maybe even a little tear! And so begins the family’s ordeal. Freya struggles with the impact of Lexi’s illness, all the while trying to hold her family together as each reacts in different ways to the upheaval it causes in their life. This did start off well however some things annoyed me and it just got worse from there. For starters the godmother is a drunk. She doesn’t seem to realise this and if she does she doesn’t do much to help, who drinks that much during an event they are working?! She is also obsessed with her best friend’s ex-husband for over 20 years, MOVE ON! Especially when he has been a complete ass of a person to his children and his ex wife and her.

Oh my goodness, I AM BEYOND EXCITED! (I have to capitalise my response to demonstrate my screams of joy!) It is real pinch me stuff and I might be making the kids’ tea or cleaning the bathroom and I stop and think, OH WOW, right now in America someone is reading my book! It’s a lovely, lovely feeling. Cathy Bramley, Queen of “Feel Good Fiction” and Sunday Times Bestselling author of thirteen novels, including Patchwork Family, My Kind of Happy, Appleby Farm, and The Merry Christmas Project.
