Millie’s family supplied the inspiration, but it was McGurl that sat down and did the work for the novel. She has been featured in the Time 100 list of the world's most influential people and is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. The reason I bring up that comparison is because at least one comment was concerned this is something only brought up for young up and coming women, and that is simply not the case. I truly did not expect some of the more tragic twists in her personal story - often in similar stories they happen to secondary characters rather than primary characters - and by the time you get to part three, you'll be entirely wrung out.

She said that a lot of the criticism came down to “jealousy”, “ageism” and “sexism” – “I can’t think of one man who has had this level of criticism,” she added. The incident is now recognized as the worst civilian disaster during World War II, according to the BBC. Brown’s Nineteen Steps, inspired by her grandmother’s experience of the 1943 Bethnal Green tube disaster, was ghostwritten by author Kathleen McGurl and published on Tuesday. I think Millie Bobby Brown is a beautiful young woman who has made a name for herself, but I can’t stop thinking about the many upcoming authors who lost their spot to a rich person.

I did not mean to vilify ghostwriting as I know it happens in all forms of entertainment and is a very respectable position.

So let me just say I have never cried reading a book before this one, and I also will never be reading another war book again. They're so affecting because you really care for the book's main character, Nellie, and she endures so much trauma in such a short period of time. Just when Nellie begins to embrace an exciting new life with Ray, a terrible incident occurs during an air raid one evening, tearing Nellie’s world is torn apart. The end is somewhat surprising and perhaps a little too neat/coincidental, but it still manages to pull on the heartstrings and deliver on the emotional promise of the rest of the book. I tend to stay away from it cause it usually bores me or just doesn’t peak my interest unless there’s fantasy elements, however, I don’t know if it’s the pure tragedy and devastation that takes place in this book that spoke to me or the romance subplot, but I couldn’t put it down. Nearly 300 people became trapped in the pileup, with layers of bodies wedged into the stairway and landing. Even the closest family can't escape the devastation of war, and as the secrets and truth about that fateful night become clear, they threaten to tear Nellie – and those dearest to her – apart. The history Brown shares in her novel, with the help of McGurl, gives readers a lens into the stories her grandmother would tell, providing us with a small slice of a Millie Bobby Brown we rarely get to see.
