Our floors come as standard, but that doesn’t mean we compromise on quality. You may by now have noticed that not all log cabin companies are the same. Beware log cabins with untreated floor bearers, which offer no protection against floor level damp penetration. We could make excuses that you may wish to use the patio as a base, as in some European countries, but we are in the UK and our customers expect to get the floor included, after all its an integral part of the building. This doesn’t mean either that we use low-grade timber bearers, because as the saying goes, out of sight out of mind! All of our products are delivered using our own fleet of vehicles, not sub-contractors. We have a large number of vehicles dedicated to delivering our quality products so we can guarantee maximum care is taken during the delivery process.

As you come to the final steps of your Dunster House log cabin build, you may be wondering what the best method is to felt the roof? If you intend on putting an outbuilding in front of the main elevation of your property (as it was originally built or as it was on 1st July 1948) will require Planning Permission.

Due to the unique design of a Dunster House product, in the vast majority of cases our garden buildings can be installed without the need for planning permission. It’s always nice to be able to throw open the windows of your garden room to enjoy a warm summer breeze or cooling air. With the addition of a flyscreen mesh, you can enjoy the warm weather without worrying about unwanted insects getting in. Keep those flying insects from buzzing around as you try to work in your garden office or relax in your summer house. Please note: water repellent treatment is not the same as pressure treatment, which protects against rot and insect infestation, and which we guarantee for 10 Years!) How you customise and decorate your product is up to you, however we would recommend that you use an appropriate water repellent treatment. This really helps minimise the amount of moisture that the timber can absorb. Therefore minimising the risk of any major movement.

Our garden buildings really are built to last therefore we use only the highest quality, slow-grown spruce. Spruce is much more resilient to warps and splits compared to its cheaper alternative pine. Being a whitewood, it doesn’t discolour anywhere near as much as pine so it is also much more aesthetically pleasing for a log cabin. Considered more stable, less knotty and resinous than pine, spruce will also produce a lot less sap. It is also less dense meaning it is not as susceptible to mould and rot. We are a long established company, operating for over 29 years. A specialist garden building supplier, we deliver log cabins, climbing frames and other timber garden building products throughout the UK. On pressure-treated timbers, you may notice some subtle striation marks. These marks sometimes appear during the drying process of timbers. Fear not! In time, the marks will begin to fade as the sun starts to lighten the wood. Dunster House commit to continuously improve the sustainability level of our sourcing, by favouring stricter more credible certification and verification standards, and sourcing requirements. We are committed to avoiding sourcing from unknown or unsustainable sources. When the felt has reached the ridge, fold over a length of felt to cover both sides of the upper layers by 200mm or more, seal the joints and nail together. Nail the felt on each side of the ridge.

With a Dunster House log cabin, it is best to lay a plastic waterproof membrane (not supplied) over the roof, which is then to be secured down with a staple gun in intervals of around 20mm. Cut the excess membrane leaving a 5mm - 10mm overhang. Unfortunately, we do not offer installation currently. All our garden buildings Our 28mm log cabins come with single glazing as standard, which consists of a single pane of 4mm toughened glass, able to repel stray footballs. Whereas our 45mm log cabins come with 24mm double glazing included at no extra cost. Our 24mm double glazed sealed unit comprises of two, 4mm single glazed panes of toughened glass on either side of an aluminium spacer bar, designed to absorb any excess moisture within the sealed unit.
