How dark is too dark? Could you stomach 100% dark chocolate? Montezuma's is betting on it, adding a 100% dark chocolate Easter egg to this year's range. Additionally, Cocoa Loco, Divine, Booja Booja, Moo Free and Montezuma are palm oil free companies whilst Plamil get our best rating for palm oil.

Although this egg is 70% cocoa, it has a really smooth, almost creamy aftertaste, and definitely couldn’t be classed as a bitter dark chocolate. In short, it’s a very easier eater. The chocolate has a deeply satisfying snap when you break a piece off, and the taste is on the rich, earthy side of the flavour spectrum, with woody tobacco notes. It’s just bitter enough to know that it’s a good quality dark chocolate, but doesn’t dry out your mouth too much. The first thing to notice when tasting this chocolate is how it absorbs all trace of moisture in your mouth. It's also quite bitter, although this seems to hit in waves. It’s our signature vegan chocolate and it’s what we use in our range of vegan Easter eggs and treats. Discover our Vegan Easter Eggs I adore honeycomb, so couldn’t wait to try Butterm!lk’s vegan milk chocolate egg with crunchy honeycomb flakes. It even comes with a generously-sized Honeycomb Blast bar that is super chunky – far bigger than a certain non-vegan chocolate bar!

Peanut Butter Mini Eggs

Even if you’re more of a fan of larger Easter eggs, we seriously recommend that you give these a try – they won’t last long, so we suggest you grab at least a couple of bags! Chocolate itself does not generally contain palm oil. However, fillings such as biscuit commonly do, so we rated all of the companies on their palm oil policies. Moofreesas egg and bag. A chocolate egg with crispy rice malt pieces in it and a bag of their Moofreesas. This is a great alternative to a Maltesers Easter egg!

Handcrafted in Notting Hill by one of the most luxurious ethical chocolate brands in the UK, family owned Melt adds intrigue with their launch of the Strawberry Easter Egg. Deliciously dark and decadent, these vegan dark chocolate Easter eggs are a treat for those who love cocoa. 8. Divine 70% Cocoa Dark Chocolate Egg with Mini Dark Chocolate Eggs To cut a long story short - which if you’ve just reached this sentence may rankle rather - we’ve got you covered, vegans! You too can enjoy your Easter egg; you too shall relish the opportunity to offer a gift to a fellow connoisseur of plant-based confectionery.

Without sacrificing quality for style, the vegan-friendly Strawberry Easter Egg resembles a strawberry, making this ‘egg’ one to remember. Supply chain and ethics are very important to plant-based chocolate brand Happi, so they buy their cacao directly from Colombian farmers – meaning that fair wages are guaranteed.

Is it Fairtrade? Many agricultural products are grown by overworked and underpaid workers. Lookfor Fairtrade to make sure that the person growing your chocolate is receives a fair wage and working conditions. Is it vegan?Much dairy is produced through intensive farming, whichkeeps animals in cramped conditions, and has high levels of emissions. Lookfordairy-freeto help protect the environmental and animal rights. The creamy chocolate egg is generously studded with pieces of honeycomb throughout, and the chocolate itself is very sweet. I loved the hint of sea salt which added extra pops of sweetness throughout and made it even more moreish. There are 5 decadent truffle flavours available: Hazelnut Crunch, Fine De Champagne, Chocolate Orange, Honeycomb Caramel, and Chocolate Salted Caramel (this is the flavour that we tried). When it comes to dark chocolate, you know you’re in safe hands with Montezuma*s – and this is certainly the case with this Easter hen. It’s 70% dark milk chocolate, so has all the intensity and rich flavouring that you expect from 70% chocolate, but isn’t quite as bitter, which is where the ‘dark milk’ comes in.
