Despite everything both Ava and Knox have experienced, their hopes for the future have never waivered. Despite the heavy topics surrounding the plot and were discussed, it was still a heartfelt and loving story. I love that this book teaches the art of patience, and how tragedy can form you into something new, something better. Having Ava’s perspective on everything was vital since it was centered on her and what she had gone through, but with Knox’s perspective, it gave more depth to some lingering questions I had while reading.

No matter the road you take, it doesn’t matter if it’s beautiful or ugly, hard or smooth, paved or pitted with ruts- it’s your road to take. The author was kind enough to warn readers that this book contains sexual assault and I know many readers appreciate that fact. This book was too profound, so beautiful and with so many important messages, that I wouldn't know where to start describing it! And of course, I also think about those handwritten letters folded into intricate shapes, carefully penned on college-ruled paper.Yet despite their struggles, this book highlights two very strong people whose bravery, character and fortitude rival that of many adults. She loves unicorns, frothy coffee beverages, vampire books, and any book featuring sword-wielding females.

And yes, this has a lot of heavy, but it’s handled in a way that you’re not left feeling too much angst and instead feeling hopeful. He was a somewhat complex and interesting character compared to Ava who was fierce, defiant and secretly more broken then she ever let anyone see.Being good enough, being loved, thinking of the future with trepidation, trying to figure out how to juggle every conflicting emotion. Knox , strong boy with a really really tragic past again, and who is a really bad character but since other characters are worse he looks nice in front of them! But after all these, she decides that going back to Camden Prep, and that is where the story picks up with Knox who is the scarred quarterback who without her knowledge has been leaving letters in her locker. It might seem silly to want something so simple, but for a girl like me—one who’s never had big things—it’s the little things that take up room in my heart: soft rain, starry nights, shy looks, leaves falling, a good movie, Tyler’s smile, chocolate cake—and a date with your guy. No missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, no underlining or highlighting of text, and no writing in the margins.

Ava and Knox had something brewing, and the more they spent time whether it was for their homework assignment or happening to be in the same place, the chemistry and connection was there! This starts rather dark with Ava waking up after a party, laying in the grass, and realising that she's been sexually assaulted. I was touched by the special love story, and even though it's about high school kids it was (mostly) mature, passionate and touching.
