It did a good job of protecting our sample too. Just a few dots of the dreaded red were visible on the unpainted side. But it didn’t score higher as it’s expensive if you buy it in this small bottle and doesn’t offer significant advantages. Neutrarust is available in larger bottles though, so it could start to make financial sense if you buy in bulk for bigger jobs. Rustins Let’s open the bottle up and see what this stuff looks like, I have never used it before so have no idea what’s inside. Inside The Kurust Bottle Small batches and often is the way to go so you cover nice clean steel as soon as possible, I normally do it last thing before I leave the garage at night. When painted on it seemed to sit on the surface of our rust rather than soaking in and reacting. It also took longer to dry, meaning we had to wait until the next day until we could paint over it with our primer and top coat. It also doesn’t require the use of any primer or undercoat. Some rust removers and converters require this, Kurust however doesn’t which makes it extremely easy and simple to work with.

It’s constructed with a non-drip formula which makes it easy to work with and prevents mess and spillages. The process is fast and efficient, with a single coating of the converter all that is needed to remove the rust. This is much easier compared to sanding or blasting the rust away, which is labour intensive and time-consuming, making rust converter a fantastic investment for most rust-related problems. Before you can use the rust converter, you need to brush off the rust with either a wire or a brush. By doing so, you will allow the product to react better with the rust. When the rust converter reacts with the rust, it forms a durable compound that is also stable. It takes less than twenty minutes for the reaction to begin. For reasons of hygiene and safety, personal grooming products, cosmetics or items of intimate clothing cannot be returned.

This rust converter is known for its fast-acting properties. The rust converter starts to react with the surface in less than 20 minutes of the initial application. This product eliminates the need for a primer as it acts as a holding primer until such time as you are ready to repaint the surface.

Whilst rust removers and rust converters may appear to be the same product, they are actually very different and should be used in varying circumstances. You know you have a serious product when it has stamps of approval from organisations like NATO and the Ministry of Defence. If it works on tanks and warships then the bottom of your Cortina probably won’t be an issue. It wasn’t worth the time and effort either. Unlike the other fluids, the Rustins didn’t seem to bond to the metal at all, meaning it just sat on top of the surface. This meant it struggled to protect against our salty spray and actually started flaking off by the end of our test, revealing the bare metal underneath. Jenolite Rust Convertor Liquid So with that in mind, separate off a small amount, you don’t need much. I just used a paint kettle for this. Ready to paint on Painting the Kurust on

This rust converter is very effective and popular. The main reason for its popularity is the fact that it is budget-friendly. The product not only gets rid of the rust, but it also creates an effective barrier that prevents the formation of rust in the future. This means that it protects the surface from other issues like oxidation and watermarks, which may result in rust in the future. Another tip is get yourself a set of small cheap digital jewelers scales and some plastic cups and mix the epoxy by weight. The best rust converter UK consumers can buy can significantly improve the lifespan of various metal products, from cars to gates. These chemical solutions can be applied directly to iron surfaces to convert rust into a protective shield.

So that’s what Kurust looks like, almost a milky substance, I don’t know what I was expecting to be honest but here it is. The Metal Give the paint a good mixing before you decant in to the cup as the aluminum settles out and needs a good whipping. I sometimes mix a new tin with a drill and a paddle then put it in to smaller tins and use it from that. I have an Alfa Romeo 75 that is a running restoration, I'm working my way around the car bit by bit. It's not going to be a show car or anything like that but I still like to make sure I do my best with every part I work on. This rust converter works by forming a waxy layer on the surface. The layer dries up quite fast and can be repainted in no time. The rust converter can be used on car brakes, gates, metallic beadings, and other metallic surfaces in the house. Note that for the product to work well, you will need to apply two coats. This element, however, depends on the intensity and depth of the rust.

I only really use epoxy mastic for suspension and other bits not seen or that will be stone chipped or on really pitted steel. The product can be applied either using a spray gun or a soft brush. The method of application you choose depends on the specifications and the area of application. Before applying the product, you need to prepare the metal by either scraping or brushing it using a scraper. After doing so, you can proceed to apply it directly onto the surface of the metal. Once the primer is dry, you can continue to repaint the surface.

Our range of direct-to-metal paints can be applied on top of the affected area and instantly provide reliable rust-proofing for years to come. Produced by Hammerite, our car paints are available in pots or in spray cans and in a variety of popular colours. They’re perfect for DIY car-rust repairs. Car rust removal solutions from Halfords A great rust converter is an incredibly useful product for all kinds of things. Most use it to remove rust from parts of their vehicle although it can be used on various day to day objects like fences, gates, gardening equipment, tools, and pretty much anything covered in rust. One side of the steel sample was left unpainted while the other was sprayed with a single coat of primer and acrylic top coat, replicating a typical DIY repair. Once dry, the samples were then doused daily in salty water for four weeks to encourage any corrosion to reappear. We then scored them on ease of use, rust-resisting performance and price. VerdictIf you are getting underneath a car, make sure you use axle stands or ramps and wear eye protection and a mask. Any areas that are holed will need welding, so don’t waste your time with treatment, but surface rust should be rubbed with a wire brush and then painted with a converter. If you are treating a rust bubble on the bodywork, you will want to remove as much of the rust as possible before treating or it will soon reappear under any filler and top coat.
