Glenn: Of course we should be doing everything we can to stop the decline. We should have stopped coal mining 20 years ago and now we cannot afford another degree of warming. On Wallaby Farm, we try to live on our fruit and vegetables as best we can. But in recent summers we have had temperatures of 47 degrees here, and I have seen plants burn – literally burn – without there being a fire. I live with koalas, wallabies, snakes, lizards, parrots, and it has been recorded that birds just fall out of the sky dead because the temperature was too high. If COP26 fails, we are going to have an even warmer world, and our property – my life at Wallaby Farm – will come to an end because it will get too hot or we’ll burn. Having never spent any time on a polar ice cap, my response to photos of their melting cannot be called solastalgia. My mood is, rather, a combination of mermerosity (the “anticipatory state of being worried about the possible passing of the familiar and its replacement by that which does not sit comfortably in one’s sense of place”) and terrafurie (“the extreme anger unleashed within those who can clearly see the self-destructive tendencies in the current forms of industrial-technological society and feel they must protest and act to change its direction”), with a certain amount of meteoranxiety as well. Meteoranxiety is “anxiety that is felt in the face of the threat of the increasing frequency and severity of extreme weather events” and should not be confused with a phobia regarding meteors -- though I have that, too. The complexity of the living planet will be re-built, via active and collaborative human agency, from the bottom up. The amount of work required has no end and zero unemployment.

As humans involve themselves in that restoration project and heal damaged places, they also emotionally heal themselves and banish solastalgia. There is nothing to stop that process going global in the Symbiocene. During the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, there were tiny little movements through which people questioned the sanity of what was then a widely-accepted universal model of development. We’ve at least got to the point where that’s being contested – and it’s been contested publicly and openly by people of goodwill. I see this as a conceptual and practical leap forward. Should you need to invoke the power of air to develop a characteristic or emotion, use yogic breathing techniques. Take in deep breaths and breathe all the way out, squeezing the air out of your lungs. This is known as diaphragm breathing. High self-esteem, enthusiastic, courageous, passionate, natural leader, productive, self-respecting, creative, original, resourceful People placed within much loved environments could experience what I have called endemophilia. A love that is distinctive to particular places is a powerful psychoterratic force that can be used to protect and conserve elements of places for posterity.

I created eutierria to put into language a secular version of a phrase - "that oceanic feeling" - that often has religious connotations. How To Identify Your Weaknesses and Transform Them Into Strengths The four elements feature heavily in every ancient culture around the world. Our ancestors had a profound understanding of how the symbolic elements of air, earth, water and fire affect emotions and characteristics and enriched their mythologies with deep meaning.

His neologisms are created based on real human experiences, mainly found in his homeland Australia. Here are just few concepts, that gave me an AHA moment:

Let the element move around your body, visualise it passing through each of your chakras and try to feel the energy moving through your body. If you are well-rehearsed at meditation this should not be a problem. Regenerating soil by rebuilding symbiotic, living soil communities will be labour intensive but immensely satisfying. Bees will flourish and their buzzing will be a sign for all that food production without the ‘cides’ is once again life-affirming. Gen S will ensure there is no insectageddon. In my forthcoming book, Earth Emotions, I make the case for a generational change where the post-baby boomer generations unite to form a new social movement.
