For example, if you were interested in switching the your Hotkey button to a "Home" button available on your controller, you would edit input_enable_hotkey_btn = "some number", replacing "some number" with the value you found for your "Home" button in jstest. I’ve reviewed more than a thousand different consumer electronics products including headphones, speakers, TVs, and every major game system and VR headset of the last decade. And, just comparing the standard Genesis pad to the standard SNES pad for a moment (since those are the ones you got in the box at no extra cost), those additional shoulder buttons on the SNES and the diamond-shaped face button layout offered far, far more versatility for all types of games: Imagine trying to play a Doom-style fps game with strafing and the like using a standard Genesis controller, or an F-Zero-like game with left and right air brakes, or Smash TV with independent 8-way movement and 8-way aiming at the same time, or, indeed, Street Fighter II without upgrading at an additional cost to the 6-button Genesis controller . Though the original Sega Genesis offered no additional inputs over the NES controller, it did address ergonomics with its rounded grips and overall smooth design.

You're right about it being good, I have this for the PS2 and it's the best 3rd party controller ever made for that console (it also features the patented D-Pad). You can rewind your game by pressing and holding ZL + ZR if you make a mistake or just want to retry a section. Of course, it didn’t do too much that was particularly exciting, given the era it originated in, but that doesn’t make it any less novel or special. Broadly speaking: Atari and Commodore form one compatible group, Sega Master System and Mega Drive (Genesis) form a second group, and everything else is mutually incompatible. On the bottom edge, there are four green LEDs which give information on various things, such as the power level of the pad's battery, whether or not it's trying to connect and what 'Player number' it is assigned to.

As a controller, it’s surprisingly comfortable and gets the job done well with first-party SEGA games. There are some differences in game performance and presentation as compared to the original versions of these games.Although certainly not as important as the D-Pad, the shoulder buttons would prove useful also for one-directional input, usually for such things as switching menus or rotating a camera. Actions like aiming in Super Metroid and chaining combos in Street Fighter 2 became possible, while other games utilized these buttons for camera control or banking left and right. Nintendo recognized the need for more complex inputs while still presenting a friendly piece of hardware. In modern games, the analog stick is used as often, if not more often, than its predecessor, the D-Pad.

It was a console so good, people couldn’t stop pirating its games until the company was forced to go third-party. You can also access it from the start menu within EmulationStation under the Configure Input option. While gaming may be about the games, the controller is the necessary link between the game and the player, and as such, can be just as important as the game.

Up until TGS2005, Nintendo had kept the controller for the Wii (then codenamed the “Revolution”) so secret that rumors had popped up, including one of the most elaborate hoaxes in the history of video gaming. The three-button Control Pad may have kicked off the SEGA Genesis’ career, but it was the Six-Button Control Pad that defined its run and solidified SEGA as a creator of weird controllers. Its face is almost entirely glossy black plastic, with a slightly shiny matte plastic around the grips and across the back of the controller. Ultrasmiles yeah there are a lot more GameCube games I have been interested in lately since I already have a sixty four but the sixth four is still a good add on hope it’s not like fourth dollars for online just for swag and sixty four though. The games compiled in this software are reproductions of the original games for use on Nintendo Switch.

They also look and feel more genuinely "Sega" than the 8Bitdo M30 Bluetooth gamepad, which features the same layout but a smaller, much more dog-bone shape than any Sega controller had.I've previously used the NES30 Pro, but it looks like this will be much better suited - no separate analogue stick board to mess with, USB C, more buttons for menus, and even the 6 face buttons lend themselves better to fight stick layouts. Forgive my ignorance here*, but I don't like the idea of only having access to the classic games if I pay a monthly fee.
