Description
With no options left, Persephone flees to the forbidden undercity and makes a devil’s bargain with a man she once believed a myth…a man who awakens her to a world she never knew existed. But from the moment I crossed the River Styx and fell under his dark spell…he was, quite simply, mine. I was fully immersed in the world from the start of Neon Gods and I didn’t want to leave. It was pretty epic and I loved the combination of the traditional elements of Greek Mythology while also still being very modern.
Apollo may be the city’s official spymaster, but it’s his ability to inspire others that keeps him at the top. Achilles Kallis may have been born with nothing, but as a child he vowed he would claw his way into Olympus’ inner circle. The Neon God is a living idea created from the concept of the city and the desire to feel connected, similar to how the Scarlet King was created from humanity's dissatisfaction with the modern world. The Neon God was capable of transforming any land it came across into parts of one endless city. Upon being done with consuming its original world, the Neon God used SCP-7005 to expand its influence to the wider multiverse. This process started with the manifestations of random structures in small populated areas such as poor villages which would eventually transform into large buildings with neon lights and connected cables while being separated with different types of roads. Hades is a puppy dog. I don’t think that is something that you would hear very often, but he really is. On the outside, he has this grumpy exterior that we all know Hades to have, but Persephone sure does break him down. I had a great time playing Neon Gods. It has one of my favorite themes, tense and exciting gameplay, and excellent replay value with the different scenarios. It’s a lot of fun and well worth buying, but there are a couple of things to be aware of before you do.Zeus may have decided Helen is his to give away, but she has her own plans. She enters into the competition effectively vying for her own hand in marriage. Aphrodite has never flinched at getting her perfectly manicured hands dirty, and she’s not about to start now―even if that means marrying Olympus’s enemy number one, the new Hephaestus. I get shivers just thinking of their interactions. SHIVERS."—Mimi Koehler for The Nerd Dailey for Neon Gods He was supposed to be a myth. But from the moment I crossed the River Styx and fell under his dark spell… he was, quite simply, mine.
The thing that took me by surprise the most in this book were the incredibly sweet moments between Hades and Persephone. It’s a known fact that Robert can bring the steam (you have not lived until you’ve read the A Touch of Taboo series) and there’s plenty of steamy and kinky scenes in Neon Gods. However, there are also the most heartwarming displays of affection which are all the more endearing because they come from Hades, who’s got this rep as total grump and yes, he totally has his grumpy moments, but I just could not handle this man’s kindness—the heartfelt moments he shares with Persephone and the secret things he does to help his people ruined me.Got it? Now imagine you find that book—the one you dreamed about—delivered right into your hands. And boom, you have my review for Neon Gods by Katee Robert. Not convinced that you need this book in your life yet? Alright, let me elaborate. He was supposed to be a myth. But from the moment I crossed the River Styx and fell under his dark spell... he was, quite simply, mine. Being a living idea created of human thought, the Neon God has no real appearance and it depends on how humanity see it. Rosie Hartlepool described the Neon God as a massive wall filled with yellow artificial lights, which formed unknown words, and countless cables connecting it to the other buildings.
Orpheus Makos will do whatever it takes to make things right. Once the golden boy of the upper city, he’s now a shadow of his former self.
Hades is badass don’t get me wrong and he won’t take shit from anyone – but Persephone turns him to pudding and it’s just fantastic to witness. I also loved that everyone around him just watched it happened and laughed. The book starts out with Demeter selling off Persephone to marriage with Zeus without informing her daughter of this previously. However, Persephone runs away after being forced to say yes. She runs across the River Styx and ends up running into Hades. He saves her once she reaches him on her own accord, as he is forbidden to help due to a treaty he has with the rest of the Thirteen. Though his position is all but a myth at this point thanks to Zeus. Persephone strikes a bargain with him the following morning that she will stay with Hades and he’ll ruin her reputation so Zeus will no longer want her. This means public sex at private parties that Hades throws. He is reluctant to agree at first. Though he’s attracted to her, he doesn’t see it as consent. Something he’s very strongly for in all aspects. Eventually, he agrees to it, and the two set ground rules for their relationship. Even establishing her safe word of pomegranate and limits of what acts of BDSM she’s ok with or interested in. Granted other than sex in public, there really isn’t any in the book performed by them though there is mention of bondage performed by others during one of the parties. In Olympus, you either have the power to rule...or you are ruled. Achilles Kallis may have been born with nothing, but as a child he vowed he would claw his way into the poisonous city's inner circle. Now that a coveted role has opened to anyone with the strength to claim it, he and his partner, Patroclus Fotos, plan to compete and double their odds of winning. Hades has spent his life in the shadows, and he has no intention of stepping into the light. But when he finds that Persephone can offer a little slice of the revenge he’s spent years craving, it’s all the excuse he needs to help her—for a price. Yet every breathless night spent tangled together has given Hades a taste for Persephone, and he’ll go to war with Olympus itself to keep her close…
