I don’t find you need to turn the volume up high on either, but you may want to play with bass and treble to suit your own preference with the Canton.

The Playbar has a very nice “speech enhancement” button that does a very good job of emphasising the sound for dialogue, very easily – and it works well. Lets try a hard reboot first please> Sometimes this is caused by a glitch in the Canton and can be resolved by a forced reboot, other times it is due to failed hardware, if it is a glitch then your Canton will work normally again. It is not the end of the world as after a few minutes I don't really notice the difference, but it is there. I know it's a small unit, but again, the reviews gave me hope that this wasn't going to be a big issue! The glass topped box looks very sleek and unlike the Playbar, comes with its own remote which is on the chunky side but well built.Canton are a leading German loudspeaker company, so the DM55's superb sound comes as little surprise. If you’re after a soundbase that both looks good and performs brilliantly, this Canton DM55 is definitely one you need to audition. This time may vary due to reasons beyond our or the manufacturer's control, such as parts availability and incorrect fault advice given. The DM55 manages to improve upon the performance of its forebear, chucks in a couple of useful new features and looks and feels like a serious slab of AV gear.

There’s still no sign of HDMI inputs, but we don’t feel that’s a huge miss as the optical input works perfectly well. Only the lack of HDMI ports and less impressive low-volume performance blot the copybook; otherwise this is one of the best soundbases around, right up there with the Geneva Model Cinema and the Philips XS1.
