The more Horus Heresy books I read by Dan Abnett the less I love his work during the series. Perpetuals and the Cabal are two of the most uninteresting components of the 40k universe. On paper I love them both and think they're full of potential but every time they're in a story I just could not give less of a shit. I really enjoyed all of the

After the Battle of Miral, Dantioch's mask, now know as "the mask of the Warden of the Pharos", was left upon the funeral pyre of Chapter Master Mansirius Thorcyra. With Sotha wiped of life by the Tyranids, a "Warden of the Pharos" was considered no longer needed. [7b] I mean, there was so much opportunity for so much more in the novel when it comes to the various Legions, and I think the novel really wouldn't have been any different had most of them not been involved at all. Other than it really made it seem like MaCragge's beacon did make the difference and save lives. Not wanting to fall into the same trap of self-aggrandizement as Horus, Guilliman refused to crown himself Emperor. He proposed to Lion El'Jonson that he rule Imperium Secundus. However ultimately, the duty would fall to a reluctant Sanguinius, Primarch of the Blood Angels, who was named Imperator Regis. Guilliman became Lord Warden while Lion El'Jonson was named Lord Protector of Imperium Secundus, a title similar to Warmaster. [2] A major test for Imperium Secundus came during the Battle of Sotha, where Imperial forces attempted to defend the Pharos. Fortunately for Guilliman, his forces were victorious. [3] After the battle, Guilliman and Lion El'Jonson came to severe disagreement over what to do about Night Lords Primarch Konrad Curze, who was still loose upon the planet. Curze may have been behind a string of suicide bombings and rebellions that targeted Guilliman's authority on Macragge, resulting in Lion El'Jonson using the Dark Angels to put Macragge under martial law and deploying the Dreadwing to devastate rebellious areas of the planet. However Curze was ultimately captured by The Lion in the Illyrium region and forced to stand trial. [4]

I admire him,' Guilliman said, more audibly, looking at his stoic chamberlain. 'Throne, who wouldn't? Its impossible not to admire him. But there is always a shadow on him. He dwells in secrets, he plays his cards too close, and he walks by himself when he pleases. There is... too much of the wild forest in him. He should be as noble as any of my beloved brothers, but we have never been close, and there is too much about him that is sly. This will be an intersesting reunion. I wonder what agenda brings him all the way to Ultramar' So, The Unremembered Empire. This is probably one of the bigger pieces of lore to be really "new" when it comes to the HH(Though I could be wrong), and man was it a nice thing to read about! Unfinished or abandoned character Arch's, a stupidly overpowered antagonist and terrible character portrayal literally had me pausing and thinking wtf did I just hear? This was not about empire-building, or seeking to claim the throne for himself as Horus had done. The Avenging Son already had a stellar empire in his possession -- Ultramar -- the Five Hundred Worlds. Guilliman wanted his brother to know that his only intention was to ensure the survival of their father's dream. Terra might have fallen, and their father might already be dead. With the end of 'The Unremembered Empire' we're finally going to be moving into some truly undiscovered areas before heading to the EPIC Battle Of Terra. I can't wait to see how it all ends because, no doubt, what I thought I knew will be completely different to how it actually goes down.

Barabas Dantioch was recognized as the first Warden of the Pharos and a " Hero of the Imperium" by Guilliman's own decree. His mask remained within Mount Pharos atop the 'Aegidan Oath' sworn by Oberdeii as the new Warden of the Pharos, for almost a thousand years. [5] After Oberdeii became the Chapter Master of the Scythes of the Emperor, the mask was removed from its resting place, becoming a badge of office for the Chapter's highest rank. [5] [7a] It could be nothing more sinister than shelter from the warp,' replied Euten. 'You'll find out. The Lion is coming. I suggest you put on full plate and welcome him in a menner that befits his eminence. Any loyal son you said. Well one has come to you out of the storm"

Guilliman was overjoyed that one of his wayward brothers had arrived during his hour of need, but of all his brothers, he wondered why it had to be the Lion who had found his way through the storm. Though the Lord Macragge greatly admired the lord of the I st Legion, he felt there had always been a shadow upon him.

Imperium Secundus was a Human empire on the Eastern Fringe of the Galaxy formed in 009. M31 during the Horus Heresy. At its peak, it compromised roughly five hundred worlds and was centered around the realm of Ultramar. [1] History

Basically it's Five Go Mad In McGragge. Five primarchs turn up, and they have a big fight. At the end of which, nothing is resolved, and the story has barely moved on. And that's *it*.
