Bandol’s rosés are top-notch, but it also produces one of France’s great ageworthy wines, with powerful reds based on Mourvèdre. In the northern parts of the Central Coast, Chardonnay tends to dominate the plantings, with Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon also playing significant roles. The wine’s green, herbaceous and fruity scents are sometimes accented with musky aromas, yet its flavors are consistently fresh and bright. Full of ripe gooseberry and passionfruit, intense tropical fruit and lime flavours, with sweet grassy notes; the rich minerality of the vineyard soils come through the palate to give a rich lingering finish.

On the riper end of the spectrum, heady aromas of peach, pineapple, ripe grapefruit and a touch of honey and herb are at the fore.
