Description

this book reeks of 2016. it’s like elle kennedy took the lyrics of skater boi by avril lavigne but made it more 14 year old on tumblr angsty. i have so many issues with this book so i have to go character by character. Het was ZO vrouwonvriendelijk. Iedereen was een slet of dom, behalve Sloane want zij is niet zo. Hoe er over Amy de vriendin van Silas werd gepraat was ook echt niet okay. Of over RJs moeder. De homofobie en bifobie ("De meeste getrouwde mannen zijn bi", direct citaat van een guy die een getrouwde man probeert te verleiden. WAT BETEKENT DIT) spatten er vanaf. Manmanman. After RJ’s mom marries a rich man seemingly out of nowhere, he is forced to attend Sandover Prep School for his senior year. His plan is to keep his head down and not form any attachments. But all of that changes when he meets Sloane. She’s the headmaster’s daughter and also forbidden. Though, RJ is never one to follow the rules…‬

Manmanman. Misfit is Elle Kennedy's newest addicting read. This book kept me engaged from start to finish. I listened to the audiobook and never wanted to push pause. Wat een bizar boek. Ik heb geen woorden voor hoe bizar. Ik heb in geen tijden zoiets problematisch gelezen. En in 2023????? Bizar, haha. to make matters worse, lawson frequently defends his sex addiction by saying that since he’s attracted to everyone, he has to sleep around because there’s so many people to choose from. my god. how did this get published.I think what it comes down to with Misfit is that there was too much included in one book. Taking out the POVs other than RJ’s and Sloane’s might have helped. It would have given more time to develop the relationship between RJ and Sloane and moved the story along faster. Each of the other guys is getting their own book anyways. Maybe the multiple POV over the series will make more sense than just in this one book. I don’t know. I guess I’ll find out later. Misfit by Elle Kennedy is the first book in the new adult Prep series. It is mainly set in New Hampshire at the elite prep school Sandover, and features a group of seniors. Remington John (RJ) Shaw has just found out that his mom is marrying a wealthy man he has never met and RJ is being sent to Sandover Prep, a boarding school for rich male delinquents for his senior year along with his new stepbrother, Fennelly (Fenn) Bishop. RJ is a loner and doesn’t see the point of trying to get along with anyone. That changes when he somehow starts making friends. Then he meets Sloane Trescott, the headmaster’s daughter who is off-limits to the students. However, RJ doesn’t believe in rules and decides to win her. Sloane is determined not to get involved after breaking up with ex-boyfriend. There are a few subplots happening in this story and I’m so excited to see how everything is going to play out. I was really looking forward to this new series from Elle Kennedy. I was hoping it would have some Erin Watt Royals vibes (it did) and I was intrigued by the blurb. Did I end up loving it? Not really. I guess I liked it. I’m having a hard time deciding. There were a lot of great things about it, but there was also some stuff that bugged me. The ruling king of Sandover will stop at nothing to get rid of his competition. If RJ wants to survive prep school and win Sloane's heart, he'll need to get people on his side - and fast.

Elle Kennedy - Book Series In Order Elle Kennedy - Book Series In Order

Told from multiple points of view, I had no trouble transitioning from one to another. The characters were well-developed. Both RJ and Sloane go through dramatic transformations during the storyline. lawson also frequently sexually harasses everyone he meets. the boys he goes to school with, his teachers, every single girl he meets, etc. with no consequences whatsoever. In addition to this she ruined multiple characters giving us their POVS like I absolutely don’t want to read Silas or Lawson’s stand alones after reading how awful their thoughts were in their POVs. Had they just been side characters and I didn’t have to see Silas talking about his crush on his friends gf (a crush he’s had forever while having a gf he doesn’t care about) - I’d be more interested in his stand alone. But trying to give him a main character personality with main character unresolved feelings etc when he’s a side character ruined him. The problem with this book is it seemed like Elle was experimenting with other writing styles. For example: every other book she’s written is just the POVs of the 2 main characters. This one every rando side character got their own POV. I get the idea get you familiar with the character before they get their own standalone to “make you eager to read theirs”… but it didn’t work out. They should have just been strong enough side characters we’d want to read their stand alones, not everyone needs to be a main character in every book. This book should have only focused on Sloan and RJ, this was their story. The author brilliantly portrayed the attitudes and changes that occurred. The story is well-plotted with a few unpredictable moments at the end of the book. There are plenty of secrets, unlawful activities, bullying, and more woven into the story focused around the romance of RJ and Sloane. There is also a mystery concerning Sloane’s sister Casey’s accident that occurred the prior year. Hopefully, book two in the series will fully resolve this mystery.

THE CLIFFHANGER THOUGH! I'm really keeping my fingers crossed that it's not as bad as it looks but can't wait to figure out the next clue in this mystery!

Hobbies

While it sounds cliche, outcast loner meets the headmaster's daughter, forbidden romance thing. This book was anything but. RJ and Sloane were such charismatic personalities that I couldn't get enough. I love reading about females in NA romance that own who they are and they're also not shy virgins. I seriously loved how confident Sloane is with her sexuality and appeal to men. She knows she's attractive and she makes RJ work for it. And god did I love how he chased her. The start of an addictive New Adult romance series from bestselling author Elle Kennedy, where the only thing more dangerous than the students are the secrets they’re keeping . . . Perfect for fans of Elle’s Off-Campus series, Erin Watt’s Paper Princess and Gossip Girl Looking more into how she does her writing, it is clearly evident that her characters definitely come first during her writing. More specifically, she claims to always get ideas for really awesome characters and then take time to thoroughly brain storm the ideas right until she comes up with the best world to place them in. a perfect example of how she is able to achieve this is in her book midnight rescue in which she claims to have had a heroine in mind in advance of course alongside other main characters in the book. What followed was simply the piecing together of smaller sections of her imagination for the book which was done and ended up with a rather solid plot. It’s been a whirlwind for RJ—his mother is suddenly getting married to a rich guy he never met, and they’re sending him to Sandover Prep for his senior year. Sandover is an exclusive prep school for rich boys who’ve gotten into trouble. he has a raging sex addiction that is never taken seriously by anyone. everyone treats it as a joke, including elle kennedy. he’s also addicted to drugs and has been to rehab multiple times but doesn’t seem to be affected by this addiction?? like he is never impacted by these addictions (other than getting a slap on the wrist from the headmaster). it seems like elle kennedy added these addictions to make him seem more edgy instead of taking such a heavy and incredibly impactful issue seriously.
