My beast was transfixed, and I wrestled to control it again, trying to rein the things that were monstrous in me back, as I lumbered forward to breathe her in deep. I requested an ARC not knowing much about the premise other than "dark beauty and the beast," and when I saw the trigger list included heavy impact play, I almost had instant regret.

The author had been posting prints on Instagram of the characters and I really thought it was going to be deliciously steamy, so I was a little disappointed. A dark fantasy romance about Rhaim the All-Beast, a cruel beast mage doomed to die at the hands of the woman he must protect, and Lisane, the Princess of Tears, who needs to learn magic so she can be free—no matter the cost. Most of the story really followed around Rhaim working with the King to kill the Deathless and Lisandra struggling to learn magic.I'm currently 60% in and enjoying every moment of the forced proximity and slow burn between the protagonists. I'm so glad I decided to continue, because not only was I COMPLETELY wrong to doubt either of you, but the rest of the story more than made up for my annoyance at the end of the 2nd book. I was fascinated with this magical world and I can't wait to read more about it, and maybe even explore it more, in the following books! Beauty and the Beast retellings will never go out of style, and BEND HER is definitely in my list of favorites.

I did want a little bit more spice (I mean 😏) but I loved the sexual build of tension and slow burn between the two main characters.

At the moments it was giving me vibes of first From blood and ash book, the slow burn and enemies to lovers crafted amazingly! Bend Her is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, and it’s so fresh and imaginative, I don’t even know how to explain. Victoria’s portrayal of the sheltered princess betrayed by her family and then punished and humiliated by the All-Beast was incredible.Bend Her was my first read of the year and I freaking loved the dual POV between Lisane and Rhaim, making the slowburn tension and buildup in their mentor/apprentice so delicious! the only way for the FMC to develop her magic is to ignore all of her internal alarms and let the man she thinks has kidnapped her to starve and hit her on a regular basis?
