Description

It has been shown that antacids which contain calcium or magnesium may form complexes with certain substances e.g. antibiotics (such as tetracyclines and quinolones), cardiac glycosides (e.g. digoxin), bisphosphonates, dolutegravir, levothyroxine, and eltrombopag, resulting in decreased absorption. This should be borne in mind when concomitant administration is considered. Rennie Orange contains Calcium Carbonate. Always read the label. If symptoms are severe or prolonged, you should consult a doctor or pharmacist. If you are pregnant, medicines can affect the unborn baby. Always talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medicine during pregnancy. Patients with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency should not take this medicine. The usual dosage is one to two tablets, up to 3-4 times per day. This medicine is for adults only, it is not recommended for use in children and adolescents below age 18. Prolonged use should be avoided. Do not exceed the stated dose of maximum of eleven tablets a day. If symptoms persist after seven days further medical advice should be sought.

Please consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have mild or moderate kidney problems as regularblood tests should be carried out. Also herbs and spices like turmeric, thyme, rosemary, basil, cloves, oregano and ginger, oils like coconut oil, olive oil, sesame oil and flax oil, beverages like chicory root coffee, cinnamon tea, peppermint tea, ginger tea, and licorice and sweeteners like stevia and xylitol. Especially in patients with impaired renal function, prolonged use of high doses can result in hypermagnesaemia or hypercalcaemia and alkalosis which may give rise to gastric symptoms and muscular weakness (see below).

Caution should be exercised in patients with mild to moderate impairment of renal function (see section 4.3 – contraindication in severe renal insufficiency). If Rennie is used in such patients, plasma calcium and magnesium levels should be regularly monitored. Thiazide diuretics reduce the urinary excretion of calcium. Due to increased risk of hypercalcaemia, serum calcium should be regularly monitored during concomitant use of thiazide diuretics. Rennie deflatine tablets contain three active ingredients: calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate, which are both antacids, and simeticone, which is an anti-foaming agent.

A small amount of calcium and magnesium may be absorbed, but in healthy subjects is usually rapidly excreted by the kidney. The usual dose is 2 tablets to be chewed. It should preferably be taken one hour after meals and before going to bed. An additional dose can also be taken in between in the case of heartburn. The maximum dose of 8 grams calcium carbonate (corresponding to 12 tablets) per day should not be exceeded and should not be taken continuously for longer than 2 weeks. Only for use by adults and children over 12 years of age. If your symptoms last for longer than two weeks or get worse despite taking Rennie deflatine you should consult your doctor. Animal studies do not indicate direct or indirect harmful effects with respect to reproductive toxicity.

No increased risk of congenital defects has been observed after the use of calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate and alginic acid during pregnancy. Hypersensitivity reactions have very rarely been reported. Clinical symptoms may include rash, pruritus, urticaria, angioedema dyspnea and anaphylaxis. In case of high doses, prolonged intake or renal insufficiency, the risk of hypercalcaemia and/or hypermagnaesia cannot be completely excluded. Although people often use the terms interchangeably, there is a difference between heartburn and indigestion. Lemon cream flavour (primarily composed of lemon oil, lime oil, orange oil, l-menthole, vanilline, maltodextrin, gum arabic, ascorbic acid, butylhydroxyanisol)

It has been formulated with simeticone, a highly effective ingredient which relieves the symptoms of trapped wind. If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse. If Rennie Extra tablets are used in such patients, plasma concentrations of calcium, phosphate and magnesium should be monitored regularly. It has been formulated with simeticone, a highly effective ingredient in treating trapped wind which works gently on trapped air bubbles to lessen embarrassment. If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. This includes any possible side effects not listed in this leaflet. See section 4.
