In the deft hands of sophomore author Stephanie Wrobel, these ingredients mix together to give us a novel that’s fun, creepy and incredibly fast-paced. It soon becomes apparent as to who this child is, and although those sections were the most difficult to read, they were the most compelling of the story. Not only is the origin of Wisewood intriguing and captivating, but the characters in this story wrap the reader up from the start. That’s not my jam, so the only magic trick I wanted to see is for that part of the story to disappear. The timelines and the details about Kit, young lady we don’t know her true identity who becomes fearless magician with the triggering impacts of her sadistic father and Kit’s POVs already fill your mind.

This is one of those novels where information is revealed slowly, and seems to be out of place and random, but it is all brought together beautifully at the end. At her memorial, they plant an oak tree and Vicky talks about Shruti's depression - revealing that she passed her exams - whilst Adam wants an investigation into the hospitals conditions. I enjoyed Darling Rose Gold more but I still enjoyed it’s one creepy location and cult themes of the book.

The Liminal 11 version of the deck includes a detailed full-color guidebook containing new tarot spreads and a special forward from Melissa Cynova, a redesigned box, blue card backs, and a bonus card This Might Hurt/This Might Heal. Moving deftly between Nat’s quest to find Kit in the present day and periodic flashbacks following a young girl who finds escape from her abusive home in the world of magic, THIS MIGHT HURT lays a clever trap for its readers, and for its protagonist—and the only way to get out is to go through its winding, treacherous maze. I direct the close of my pitch to the CEO, who has spent fifty minutes of my sixty-minute presentation playing with his phone and the other ten frowning at me.

Natalie thinks it's a bad idea, but Kit has had enough of her sister's cynicism and voluntarily disappears off the grid.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer Harry Vance slips out of his lover’s bed for a mysterious nighttime meeting. The story opens up Natalie, a shark, boss b*tch’s presentation at the meeting with local brewery company executives. BookBrowse seeks out and recommends the best in contemporary fiction and nonfiction—books that not only engage and entertain but also deepen our understanding of ourselves and the world around us. Nothing bothers Natalie whereas Kit is struggling to cope with the day to day pressures brought on by work and family. As THIS MIGHT HURT progresses, readers are introduced to an anonymous third character—a woman whose identity will be revealed later in the book (no spoilers here!

I was actually more than a third of the way through the book before I realized who all of the characters were. The concept of a mental health "retreat" is by no means foreign to Americans, and wellness tourism has grown into a multi-billion dollar industry globally. The push and pull of Nat and Kit’s relationship drives this story forward and delivers gripping interpersonal intrigue, but it was actually an unexpected third voice that ended up being my favorite point of view in this book. The partners deliver a few punchlines of their own in this fast-moving story that’s replete with twists and danger. Some crime novels are setting-forward, and others use setting simply as a means to facilitate interactions between characters; somehow, THIS MIGHT HURT seems to do a little bit of both. While Natalie knew Kit was signing up for some sort of hippie dippie “wellness retreat” sort of place off the coast of Maine, she can’t figure out why Kit wouldn’t bother reaching out just to say she’s okay. Huge thanks to Vanessa and her publisher for giving us this early sneak peek—I can’t wait to read BLOOD SISTERS this fall!

And it also means always dealing with too many patients at once, hoping for Tracey the good midwife (“I’d let her sew up my sister’s perineum”) and not the panicky one (“Non-reassuring Trace”), and ignoring the kind of profound fatigue that sees you fall asleep in your car for the night before you can drive it home. And for your support: my parents, Essie, the wonderful people of Crit Club, the good folks at Tarot Party, and every single Kickstarter backer who made the original self-published edition of this deck possible. Through flashbacks to a childhood and adolescence spent trapped in her abusive father's unhinged training regimen—one designed to purge fear and self-doubt from the girl and her sister—this third narrator's story quickly proves to be the novel's most captivating thread. This can be an effective storytelling device, but in this case, waiting for the private investigator heroine to get to where the reader is at the beginning of the story feels interminable. Shruti bumps into the father of the triplets she delivered at the supermarket, upset she can never escape from work she eventually abandons her trolley and runs home.Adam ends up covered in blood during an operation and breaks down after hearing Mrs Winnicka has died. As well, there are snippers of another character’s perspective, too, whose identity is not revealed until later on. This is NHS life as it was lived under Gordon Brown and before the worst public health crisis in living memory. Film Independent Spirit Award TV Nominations: 'Abbott Elementary,' 'The Bear,' 'Severance,' 'Station Eleven' Lead". Her sister Kit is at Wisewood on an isolated island off Maine doing a six month self improvement programme.
