From the outset, the UK Contingent understood that branding isn’t for everyone. The UK Contingent brand is a way of talking about themselves and presenting themselves in a consistent, inclusive, and inspiring way. The UK Contingent (UKC) is made up of Participants, Unit Leaders, International Service Team (IST) and the Contingent Management Team. Together, the UKC represents the UK at the World Scout Jamboree.

If you’re starting out on your crochet adventure, your confidence will build as the project takes shape.The event takes place every four years where a different country hosts the event and its participants. In the Summer of 2023, over 4,500 Scouts and Guides from across the UK made their way to Korea for the 25th World Scout Jamboree. The UK Contingent The 25 World Scout Jamboree will take place in Korea, and the theme for the event is #DrawYourDream. We’ve taken inspiration from this – and the national animal of Korea – to create our brand: ‘Dreams and tigers’. Not in any way shape or form, Scouting is fully inclusive; disability, sexuality, identity, race, religion all will not form a barrier to us selecting you for our adventure. We’ve shared the design with a number of faith groups, including an independent Islamic scholar. We’ve made sure: We’ve worked hard to make sure we respect different faiths, customs, cultural beliefs and inclusion considerations in the development of the brand. That’s why we’ve spoken to such a wide range of people, which is why our brand has been tested for accessibility (and is three-star rated for compliance).

A low point is Buddy Knox’s tepid Hula Love. It was a No.9 hit for him in ’57, but it’s a pity he couldn’t have sung his chart-topper of that year, Party Doll. According to his, at the time, child bride-to-be Myra in her book Great Balls Of Fire! (co-written with Murray Silver), when Lewis took her to watch Jamboree he refused to bring her into the cinema until moments before he was due on screen, and escorted her out again after his segment, saying, “There’s nothing else in it you’d wanna see.” Crochet projects that are worked in stages like this give a sense of satisfaction when each part is completed (and sometimes the motivation to continue!). The first Jamboree was held at Olympia, London in 1920. Since then, the Jamboree has taken place roughly every four years, bringing 14-17 year olds together from all around the World. Providing an opportunity for young people to share their cultures, learn about the world around them and participate in a variety of activities.
