What I thought:I love butter chicken and have tried many different recipes, and this is one of the best ones I’ve tried (it uses full-fat cream for a more indulgent version but if you’ve been fasting all day, why not! This Ramadan book is a lifeline for anyone who is fasting over this spiritual time and needs inspiration and trusted recipes. From five-ingredient bakes to special occasion creations for impressing friends and family, there’s a bake for all eventualities, including some extra special seasonal bakes for Easter, Christmas and more. Accompanied by gorgeous photographs throughout, these recipes from much-loved food blogger Anisa Karolia are for anyone looking to eat well before and after fasting. Accompanied by gorgeous photographs, these recipes are for anyone looking to eat well before and after fasting. At first I thought that YouTube might not be for me but my husband was very supportive and told me to go for it. Of course, at Suhoor and Iftar, the pre-dawn and fast-breaking meals of Ramadan respectively, this sharing means dining together.

From perfect predawn meals for Suhoor, to hearty and satisfying meals for Iftar, as well as dishes made for celebrating with friends and family during Eid al-Fitr, and all the accompanying salads, chutneys, breads, drinks and desserts you'll need, this book has all the most popular Ramadan dishes covered. When I was young I used to think that Ramadan was a time when we had lots of nice food at the end of a fast. Beautifully photographed and featuring recipes for sides, chutneys, flatbreads, refreshments, and sweets, this book ensures that readers will eat well before and after fasting, as well as throughout the year. It’s also a great reminder to be grateful for what you have and appreciate the plight of others less fortunate than you – particularly when we live in a society that is all about the next achievement to strive for.

Some of her unique recipes included in the book include things sweet desserts like Rose and Pistachio Milk Cake and savouries such as Jalapeno and Chicken Samosas. The pre-dawn meal must sustain the diner through hours of no food or water, so a banana, date and oat smoothie, chilli-spiced shakshuka, and date and nut slices are suggested. The publisher says Karolia’s first book, The Ramadan Cookbook, was the first from a traditional publisher to focus solely on recipes designed for the holy month and Eid.

On a mission to share quick and easy recipes, you’ll find recipes to help make your Ramadan meals family-friendly, fuss-free and filling in this cookbook.

What I thought: The recipe for the chicken and potato curry resulted in chicken that was so soft and tender. She suggests adding a splash of rosewater to the saffron-infused milk poured over the rice and meat.
