What if fish had legs and started walking out of the ocean? This long-form story details what happens when the fish invade the land and begin to cause havoc. After a while, the tale evolves from a creature feature to incorporate body horror and nauseating artwork. The Long Dream takes a slow and gradual approach to body horror, with its protagonist/victim confined to a hospital bed. These rituals and behaviours begin to make a kind of sense as secrets surrounding the principal and his wife come to light. Shiver is one of Junji Ito’s better horror manga collections. Some of his stories are a bit weak, containing only a striking image or idea and a lot of fluff around it, but some are quite brilliant and unique. Ito’s stories are nothing if not original, though often they’re too absurd or silly, undercutting the horror with unintentionally amusing over-the-top moments.

Madonna, however, leans hard on the concept of catholic guilt, religious fervour, doctrine, and a the cult mentality of Western churches. That night, Hideo, now completely hollowed out with holes breaks into Yuuji's room. On the day they found the diary, he went looking for the jade statue in the bushes outside Rina's house. He took a chance with the curse because he knew the jade must be valuable; but then the holes began to open up in his body. He is now possessed by the statue and can't throw it away, although he has tried many times. He says that the doctor is the curse's "messenger", who appears wherever the jade is. Suddenly, the doctor appears and Hideo runs screaming from him. When asked why, most of them plead, in a pathetic mumble, for the enquirer to leave them alone. But a charity has also been set up to provide them with comfort, food, and water; all of which the “earthbound” (or simply “bound”) choose to ignore. The Long Dream: el miedo a la muerte entrelazado a sueños largos y tetricos. La perdida del espacio y tiempo. Body horror extremo. 3/5 While other stories (see below) showcase even more bonkers imaginative flexing than this one, Hanging Balloons is arguably Ito’s most unsettling and outright horrifying manga short story.Alternatively, you could start with some of the best-known stories, such as Uzumaki, Tomie, and the Shivershort story collection and then branch off from there. Will there be more Junji Ito stories? When Dazai took his own life, he left behind a baby daughter, Yūko Tsushima and she grew up to be a famed author in her own right, having penned novels such as Territory of Light and Woman Running in the Mountains. She meets a man who knows her name, and who invites her to his village. She learns about the Christian missionary Miguel, whom the villagers protected during Japan’s prosecution of Christians. Psychological horror is also prevalent throughout his work. Characters will often be tormented by supernatural forces or driven mad by a compulsion. Ito will amplify these scenarios through his method of illustrating eyes, often up close and with extreme intensity. This is the last story on this list to feature in the Shivershort story collection. But that book is full of gems that really show off the strength of Ito’s art and plotting.

In “Shiver,” the story that gave the collection its name, a boy is fascinated by the reclusive girl who lives next door and has porous holes all over her body. She more resembles a sponge, and she’s not the only person he’s come across who has this issue. El tomo lo leí en inglés, por lo que no se si todas las traducciones son así, las dos ultimas las puse en inglés no más.As a brief member of the Japanese Communist Party, Dazai could be seen as the anti-Mishima. His legacy as a wartime writer and post-war author is legendary, and No Longer Human is often touted as his masterpiece. This horror manga was published when Ito was only 24 and, despite it being his debut publication, it remains one of his most popular manga.

What happens when people get attached to a second hand record and start taking each other's lives? The concept was actually good but I didn't found the story to be impact , like i am most likely to forget it in a month or two. Remina fills in this gap by bringing us cosmic horror on an enormous scale. This Junji Ito manga tells the story of a scientist, Dr. Oguro, who discovers a new planet that has suddenly appeared via a wormhole. Greased: nunca mas vere al aceite de manera normal. Que tipo idiota es Goro, cree que la solucion radica en tratar mal a los demas par sentirse mejor. Que relato tan raro y macabro. 2/5Ito’s work is popular across the globe, but especially in the United States, where his influence can be seen in many contemporary artists’ works. Ito is also often referenced in Western pop culture. For instance, his work was referenced in the TV show Steven Universe, when characters go into human-shaped holes. A cursed record that dooms its listeners. A mysterious jade carving that bestows a horrific disease on those who possess it. A monstrous fashion model. Ghostly blimps of the dead. A crazed puppeteer who turns his family into marionettes. A muse that drives painters mad. A man whose dreams distort time and, eventually, his body. A man determined to carry on his family’s lineage, no matter what. And a nightmarishly greasy house and the poor family the grease envelopes.

Before becoming a full-time writer, and during the writing and release of Tomie, Junji Ito worked as a dental assistant. If there is one Junji Ito manga that best encapsulates his Lovecraftian inspiration, it’s this one. Lovecraft understood just how vast and unknowable the spaces above and below us are.

Honored Ancestors

Of all the stories in Shiver, “Greased” is by far the most memorable for me. This is mostly because of how based in sensory reality the core of its horror is. Fun and creative as Ito’s more supernatural works can be, it’s hard to top the sheer unpleasantness of tactile disgust. Body horror is what he’s most known for. The result is all kinds of terrifying body contortions – as made famous in works such as Uzumaki and Shiver. It’s often this imagery that circulates online and has brought in readers.
