As a result of Phil Taylor not advancing past the quarter-final stages, Raymond van Barneveld became the world number one. Phil Taylor was the defending champion, but was beaten in the Last 16 by Michael van Gerwen, who went on to make the final, but lost 16–14 to Raymond van Barneveld. Kirk Shepherd became the youngest player to ever reach a Darts World Championship ( PDC or BDO) final. Bates made his PDC televised debut at the 2003 UK Open reaching the third round. In 2005 he narrowly lost a last-32 match to Lionel Sams at the UK Open and made a superb run to the final in 2006 before losing to Raymond van Barneveld. The 16 PDPA members were made up from the top eight players (who had not already qualified) in the PDC Pro Tour Events during 2007: Jelle Klaasen, Mark Walsh, Tony Eccles, Michael van Gerwen, Steve Brown, Dave Askew, Jason Clark and Matt Clark. [3] Most 180s Scored, Individual: 34 John Part, 33 Kirk Shepherd, 24 Wayne Mardle, 24 Kevin Painter, 22 Adrian Lewis. [4] He participated in the 2007 Winmau World Masters instead, losing at the quarter-final stage. He overcame some leading names in the process, defeating seeded players Co Stompe and Jamie Caven to reach the last 16, where he overcame his fellow countryman Richie Burnett 6-3. Now I’ve lost my card I want it again! It’s crazy isn’t it? When I had it, it was awful, but now I want it!’

You just knew, he could do exhibitions, anything, before he was even really playing darts. He was beating players that had played darts for years. In Group B, it was Chas Barstow who sealed top spot as he completed a perfect record on Night 2 in winning four matches from four and dropping just six legs along the way. Despite finishing bottom with two points on Night 2, Paul Hogan also secured his place in Saturday’s finale after he was the league winner on Night 1 of Group B. Elsewhere, Joe Davis and Richie Burnett ended with six points across the two nights, whereas Colin Monk finished bottom with just two points. Hopefully it will be healed before then and I can play in the World Darts Trophy but we'll wait and see, and I'm not going to the Players Championships in Atlanta and Windy City. I know I’m never going to be world champion because of my age, although you never know… But I just want to have a good go. My aim is to be on TV for one more time. Ovens edged two of the next three to move a leg away from victory at 5-3, but missed two darts for the match in leg nine and a further one dart for victory in the tenth as Bates forced a decider.
