No partnership, joint venture, agency, or employment relationship is created as a result of your use of the Service.

Speyburn is a very well respected distillery with a wide appeal (particularly in America) yet, somehow, there are still too many people who are unaware of the brand and will overlook its whisky in favour of some of its shoutier neighbours. This is a shame because its sweet, Speyside flavours should please most palates. Speyside is the busiest of all Scotland’s whisky regions, with more distilleries than anywhere else in the land, including many of the most famous names in single malt. Indeed, the world’s best selling single malt lists are regularly topped by The Glenlivet, Glenfiddich and The Macallan, which all hail from the Speyside region. The nose brings forth scents of dried orange peels, honey, wood char, and vanilla beans. From the first sip, you’re met with notes of caramel apples, cinnamon sugar, candied oranges, and oak. The finish is a nice combination of sherry sweetness and wood. The Glen Moray 12 is a remarkably clean and fresh tasting single malt from Speyside and, for me, an expression that is best to start off an evening with.

It’s one of those whiskies that I don’t hate, am glad I tried, but won’t be trying again anytime soon because I’m let down by it. There was nothing offensive about it and the aroma and palate both had some nice aspects to them, but they came across far too light and flighty, It’s like the diet version of a really good Speyside and leaves me wanting more, but never quite able to find the substance I want in this glass. This is definitely a whisky that needs a higher proof and maybe even another year or two in the barrel. Often, Highland whiskies have at least a hint of peat smoke. The appeal of this sweet, soft whisky is the fact that it doesn’t have any smoke (a fact the brand makes an effort to highlight). Well-known as Scotland’s slowest distillation process, this 12-year-old expression is filled with cooking spices and fall flavors. This award-winning whisky begins with aromas of cinnamon sugar, fresh mint leaves, dried orange peels, and butterscotch. Take a sip and be transported to a world of ripe berries, oaky wood, dried fruits, vanilla beans, and sweet treacle. You’ll be met with just a hint of smoke at the very end. BUY HERE Macallan Double Cask 12, 40% The Balvenie French Oak 16 Year Old, 47.6% The Balvenie French Oak 16 Year Old, 47.6%The Macallan’s whisky is in demand because it’s hand produced in Speyside’s smallest stills and is of consistently excellent quality. Although this whisky has only spent 12 years maturing (the ‘double cask’ refers to American oak and ex-Sherry) it has still taken on loads of rich, fruity flavours. Juicy citrus, warming oak and ginger spices, sweet vanilla and dried fruits all swirl around in a sweet, oily syrup of a drink – enjoy this one and think of the money you’ve saved on their older expressions. Glenfiddich is one of the most well-known Scotch whisky distilleries for a reason. Its 12-year-old expression is extremely complex. Matured in American oak barrels and European sherry butts for a minimum of 12 years before being mellowed in oak marrying tuns, it’s known for its rich, oaky, sweet flavor. When Speyside whisky spends a long time in Sherry casks it will often transform into something of a boozy, liquid fruit cake. That’s certainly the case with Glenfarclas 25 year old whisky, one of the best examples of an aged whisky you can buy and remarkably good value for one so old. Honestly, if you buy any whisky on this list, make it The Glenlivet 12. For the price, it’s hard to find a better expression. Aberfeldy 12 Aberfeldy The nose swirls with aromas of sweet sherry, raisins, vanilla, and slight citrus. The sip reveals hints of sweet malts, vanilla beans, candied orange peels, and charred oak. The last sip is sweet and spicy with citrus and caramel.

Aesthetic experience: I actually think this bottle, label, and crest look old school and classy. The only thing I would change is the ABV up to 46%. The results immediately show why it’s such a magnet for awards, from the sherry-soaked raisins and honey on the nose to the chocolate and butterscotch in the taste, and a touch of coffee towards the finish. Unlike some whisky that has seen a lot of Sherry action, this one doesn’t overburden the senses with sweet, vinous flavours – those casks simply complement the spirit and add new layers to an outstanding, sipping whisky. Complexity, Balance: I am impressed with both the complexity and balance at this age (and from this distillery). A top grassy Speysider. The balance of sour and sweet is very interesting to observe. The complexity is way more then the “other” Glen’s I can think of. And the balance of the sweet, sour, grassy, malty on the nose, tongue and finish were wonderful. The only thing really out of balance was where some floral notes - that didn’t surface in the nose or the finish - came out on the taste. When it comes to 12-year-old single malts, there are few more complex than Glenfiddich’s expression. It’s sweet, rich, and filled with memorable oaky flavors. Aberlour 12 Aberlour

Nothing in the Terms shall exclude or limit our liability for fraudulent misrepresentation or for death or personal injury resulting from gross negligence or willful misconduct by us. Initial notes of caramel and lemon zest waft up from the glencairn and pave the way for some fruit and floral notes to come sifting through. A bit of honey, vanilla and whisky spice notes come drifting through with a touch of oak and herbs. It may sound like there is a lot going on… but there isn’t. It’s all very light and airy. Coming drifting through as hints and wisps. Unless mandatory applicable law provides otherwise, your use of and membership to the Service are exclusively governed by Dutch law.
