Description

A Pulsar star is a highly magnetized rotating neutron star that emits beams of electromagnetic radiation out of its magnetic poles.

Inside the new Hamilton PSR “beats” a digital quartz movement that helps display that rad red LCD & OLED hybrid display. Why & When The non-directional pin sleeve goes into the center link, and the non-directional pin can be driven out / reinstalled from either direction. The pins are a good friction fit in the sleeves. If you require an extra large bracelet or you are in need of additional links these may be supplied at an additional cost. Battery: I did not bother to ask the dealer’s technician what battery type is used, nor do I actually care. Pulsar stars have been given names that start with PSR, so that's where Hamilton probably got the idea for the name of the Hamilton PSR watch.

Recent updates

The Hamilton PSR is part of Hamilton’s American Classic Collection and was crafted as a timely reminder of the start of the digital world as well as digital timekeeping. In the same way the Pulsar was popular for its futuristic and statement design, the PSR achieves the epitome of cool. Timer Module: A quartz timer module runs the digital watch. There is no actual “AM” or “PM” text in the display, but there is a need to set the watch to AM or PM. During setting, as the hours increment, the display changes to 0:00 at midnight. You do not want the watch to display 0:00 at noon; that is just embarrassing. The new Hamilton PSR looks precisely like its vintage counterpart. The name on the case needed to be changed and the size also adapted to modern standards. We have a 40 x 35mm case here in either steel (standard model) or gold PVD coated steel (limited edition). The bracelet looks like all those other iconic ones we are used to seeing on our favorite vintage chronographs. You know, the 1171s or the 1162s. First world problems, for sure. But there’s a good reason to grouse about the Hamilton PSR’s affixing gizmo: the clasp’s buttons are made of milled metal. They have SHARP edges and corners.

Case: It is a brushed Stainless-Steel tapered case measuring ~40.8mm (~1.606”) wide including the operating button. The ‘long’ distance in total across all aspects of the case including its integrated center lugs measures ~45.6mm (~1.796”). After the P1 came the P2 in 1973, a more affordable and steel version. It was this P2 model that appeared in the James Bond film Live and Let Die. All Hamilton quartz movements are produced in accordance with Hamilton's typically high quality standards and manufacturing methods. Environmental temperatures can affect the accuracy of quartz movements, leading to deviations of -0.5 to +0.7 seconds per day. Bracelet: The PSR has a Stainless-Steel 24mm (0.945”) bracelet, tapering to 16.0mm (0.630”) at the clasp, and the clasp is the “Butterfly” folding type with a release button on each side. The bracelet appears to be of good engineering and build quality.

Magazine

The original Pulsar came out in 1970, exactly 50 years ago. To celebrate this anniversary, Hamilton releases the PSR, a remarkable reinterpretation of the iconic ’70s quartz wonder. On the outside, the watch shows a striking resemblance to the vintage model. Inside, however, you find a quartz movement that has been reworked to meet 21st-century expectations. The buttons are scratchy and annoying against the skin. Scratchy and annoying should be the name of a 1930’s comedy act, not characteristics of a daily wear watch.

The Hamilton PSR appeals to 50 and 60-something nostalgic nerds who recall the fascination of digital watches in the 70s. I bet it’s also worn by tech geeks who snigger at their predecessors’“ancient” technology while secretly lusting after a Patek. Either way, the PSR’s a watch that proves that mechanical watches don’t have sole claim over retro vintage mania. As Roseanne Roseannadanna said, if it’s not one thing, it’s another. Here, it’s the PSR’s integrated bracelet. More specifically, its butterfly clasp. The name, Pulsar, came from the pulsating neutron stars that emit beams of radiation at ultra-precise frequencies. There isn’t even a 12/24 hour mode option. However, there’s an AM/PM distinction when setting the time. For reason best known to Hamiltonians, the 12 am hour displays as zero in operating mode. It’s always something The Hamilton PSR features a hybrid display mixing reflective LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) and emissive OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diodes) technologies. For my small flattish arm size of 155.6mm (6-1/8”), 9 of the 13 removable links were removed. As the links are relatively short, you should be able to obtain an acceptable to perfect fit. I hope so, as there is no micro-adjust feature. In 2010, Hamilton launched the Pulsomatic to mark the 40 th birthday of the first digital watch. This digital timepiece features a liquid crystal display powered by an automatic movement. An icon Revived, the 2020 Hamilton PSR

Warranty Card: I have read that SWATCH (Hamilton’s parent company) will not honor a warranty without a properly filled out card from the dealer, so it would be a good idea to ensure your Hamilton dealer has filled out and STORE-STAMPED the card for you. You cannot register on-line. Box and Papers: A dark blue Hamilton outer box is supplied, containing a ‘wood simulated’ hinged watch box. In with the watch were the price tag and model tag. You also get what all manufacturers supply, a warranty card and the normal booklet set. We strongly recommend Royal Mail’s Special Delivery Service with full insurance for returning items to us. Hamilton has recreated the watch in virtually the same case design and cool red digits, but with modern and more energy efficient screens to get that effect. There is a compartment in the outer box beneath the watch box storage. That is where the manual, etc. are stored. If you need the outer box dimensions for whatever reason, they are: ~120cm (~4-3/4”) H X ~140cm (~5-1/2”) W X ~137cm (~5-3/8”) D. The case of the new Hamilton PSR Digital Quartz watch has also been improved with the addition of enhanced scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass protecting the display coated with anti-reflective treatment for optimal readability. The case still measures to 40.8mm by 34.7mm in size but has now been made water resistant to 100 metres and is available in fine brushed and polished stainless steel or a limited edition of 1,970 pieces crafted from stunning yellow gold PVD. To put the Pulsar into perspective, we have to remember what happened in that era. In 1969, the first men landed on the Moon wearing some amazing mechanical timepieces. It was also the year when the race for the first automatic chronograph caliber, in which Hamilton took a significant role, ended. One year later, the Pulsar hits the market. It honestly must’ve looked like something had crash-landed from space.
