After his release from prison, Tom is clearly still troubled by what happened at the retreat in Gozo but is it guilt he is feeling or something else? As I have found with all of her books, I was desperate to keep turning the pages once I got to the end of each chapter. A good cast and I liked that all the characters we were introduced to in the book were used in the story.

I do love stories set in retreats as you get this locked-room mystery vibe, and we do have two timelines here too, both with retreats. Two years ago, Fran’s sister Jenna disappeared on a wellness retreat in Gozo that went terribly wrong.While it’s not necessary to like every character on the page, it does help to be able to identify with them, and the main ones need at least one redeeming feature.

When Tom and Kate offer another retreat in Wales, Fran attends to try to find out what happened to Jenna. Suspicious deaths, missing sister at a wellness retreat, mental gurus or charlatans with deep secrets, dysfunctional family members who are obsessed to know what really happened the daughter/ sister, narrated by three different vivid women characters, alternating between past and present: this formula truly worked for me! There is also personal growth throughout the book, as she explores her relationship with Jenna and the rest of her family, as well as reflects on her current lifestyle. I recommend this story, especially to those who like discovering family secrets from years ago and complicated family relations.I love it when I'm not able to figure out all the twists and turns before the author reveals them and this book delivered!
