Common Sense is the nation's leading nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of all kids and families by providing the trustworthy information, education, and independent voice they need to thrive in the 21st century. Elle Jemtegaard, Kristi (March 25, 2014). "The Naturals". Booklist. Archived from the original on October 29, 2020 . Retrieved October 29, 2020. Cassie's mother, Lorelai Hobbes. Cassie was very close with her and lived with her for most of her childhood years, until one fateful night when she found her mother's dressing room covered in blood. Her mother taught her how to get inside other people's heads and profile them through BPEs.

At the beginning, Cassie couldn't choose between Michael and Dean. However, in the second book, she chooses Dean. Although being initially mad at her and pretending not to care about her for a few months, Michael moves on and remains good friends with Cassie. They work well together regardless of her love choices. Families can talk about crime stories in books and on TV. Is it important for them to accurately reflect real police work? Crime dramas on TV, for example, often show crime-scene technicians wearing high heels to a crime scene. How does The Naturals compare with these kinds of TV shows? What Cassie doesn't realize is that there's more at risk than a few unsolved homicides - especially when she's sent to live with a group of teens whose gifts are as unusual as her own. Soon, it becomes clear that no one in the Naturals program is what they seem. And when a new killer strikes, danger looms close. Caught in a lethal game of cat and mouse with a killer, the Naturals are going to have to use all of their gifts just to survive. Cassie and Dean have a special connection. They always work together seamlessly in cases because of how well they understand and use their profiling abilities. Dean kept her at arms length at first and didn't want to let himself care about her, though he later admits he loves her and they begin dating. Dean is an amazing boyfriend to Cassie and is always there for her when she needs him.Cassie is a natural profiler. Her mother was murdered when she was younger, and she went to live with her father, who then joined the armed forces. She now lives with her Italian grandmother. The concept behind THE NATURALS is kind of interesting, but it doesn't work for various reasons. The big one: It's hard to accept the premise that the FBI would hire a bunch of kids (who aren't even attending high school) to solve crimes, especially ones involving serial killers. At one point, Cassie wonders if the FBI even knows the "Naturals" program exists, except for the two agents who recruited her. Readers may suspend disbelief for the sake of pure entertainment, but the novel's all over the place. It's predictable and full of cliches (a love triangle, insta-love, missing parents) and has unlikable characters. She has also started writing The Fixer series, which currently includes two books. This is again a YA series, this time, however, more political in nature and with no paranormal elements in it. Summary [ ] Judd Hawkins is the caretaker of the teenagers in the Naturals program. He is very protective of all of them. In the second book, Killer's Instinct, Judd became the final word to allow the Naturals on an active case.

In this high-adrenaline series opener...even a psychic won't anticipate all the twists and turns." - Booklist What Cassie doesn’t realize is that there’s more at risk than a few unsolved homicides—especially when she’s sent to live with a group of teens whose gifts are as unusual as her own. Winters, Alex (August 31, 2017). "Book review: 'The Naturals' series is full of suspense". The State Journal-Register. Archived from the original on October 29, 2020 . Retrieved August 1, 2020. After things have been cleared up, the book ends with Michael telling Cassie to figure out how she feels about him and Dean, and that he'll be waiting. She also received a Fulbright scholarship which allowed her to do research on autism at the University of Cambridge in England. Also reviewing the first novel, Publishers Weekly lauded the writing by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, stating that "Barnes shows every card at just the right moment, catching readers off-guard at the final reveal. It’s a stay-up-late-to-finish kind of book, and it doesn’t disappoint." [4] All In her mother's body is believed to be found. Cassie takes this very hard & wants to take down the person who killed her mother. It takes a while for her to open up & reveal this to the others which she eventually does in a game of Two truths and a lie.

Last Updated on October 5, 2021 Jennifer Lynn Barnes is the author of the Naturals young adult thriller mystery series, which has been likened by many to Criminal Minds, an FBI series for adults, involving hunting for serial killers. In addition, she is known for her other YA series like Golden, Tattoo, The Squad, The Fixer, and Raised by Wolves. Cassie is a natural profiler. en s w her mother was murdered, so she went to live with her estranged father, who then joined the armed forces. She then lives with her Italian grandmother, Nonna. This savvy thriller grabs readers right away. Cassie’s outsider feelings are convincing and give credence to her actions throughout the story. There is enough violence, grisly description, and plot surprises to keep crime-show devotees reading. Unanswered questions will have those readers on tenterhooks for the next in the series. [3] Agent Veronica (Ronnie) Sterling. Cassie doesn't like her at all at first, but warms up to her and eventually understands her decisions after Sterling explains the reasoning behind them during their time as Webber's captives. Agent Sterling cares about Cassie and the other Naturals and tries to take them out of harm's way. She's Director Sterling's daughter, he was the previous director of the FBI, until Twelve, when Briggs is appointed the new director after Director Sterling is killed as a result of being a member in the cult that took Cassie's mother and for threatening the life of four year old Laurel Hobbes. While at work one day, she meets a strange boy (who we later find out is named Michael), leaves a business card asking Cassie to call Agent Briggs of the FBI. Cassie calls Briggs, and he asks her to join the FBI for this new project that they’re doing with Naturals – people who have a natural ability to read people and situations, who are perfect for the stuff that the FBI does (mainly hunting for serial killers and investigating abductions). Cassie agrees to join up with the FBI because she believes it is what her mother would have wanted. After an intense discussion with her grandmother, she jets off to a house where the rest of the Naturals are staying. The Naturals presents a serial killer's point of view. The killer is creepy and talks about killing and torture. Characters are stabbed, shot, seriously hurt, and killed.
