The Coleman has no latches on the lid and is just held into place with friction from the plastic of the lid connecting with the plastic of the body of the cooler. Non-Slip Rubber Feet You have several sizes and configurations to choose from if you decide to go with a Coleman Xtreme Cooler. They include 28-quart, 52-quart, 62-quart, 70-quart, 100-quart, and 120-quart models. The 62-quart and 100-quart models come in wheeled configurations while all other sizes do not come with wheels. There are actually some major benefits of a Coleman Xtreme coolers over a Yeti cooler that come naturally from the design of this cooler. Way Cheaper Being a cheaper cooler the Coleman does have some problems that you need to consider before purchasing it. Not watertight As for color options, they are a bit limited. Depending on which size and model you go with, you will be able to choose between the traditional Coleman blue and white color scheme, the brown and white option, or the attractive and eye-popping gray and orange accent color option.

Even though the Yeti is more expensive, it doesn’t have wheels. Full-loaded Yetis can be very heavy, so it would have been nice to have a couple of wheels instead of putting in a lot of legwork. This is an obvious benefit which we have talked about in great detail already. Coleman coolers are 8-10x cheaper than the Yeti.It is easy to see that these coolers are designed to be minimalist, uncomplicated and just work. They have very few moving parts and are uncomplicated, the lid has a great design whereby it clips firmly shut and the lip design helps contribute to keeping your lovely food nice and cool for when you are ready to use it. The Yeti drainage plug is a 1 inch screw plug. You can partially unscrew it to drain out the water without taking the whole plug out or you can fully remove it. Rubber Gasket

Wheeled coolers and cooler without wheels are basically the same price for the Colemans. This is not true for the Yeti coolers. Benefits of Yeti over Coleman I discovered that the Coleman didn’t hold ice for as long as the Yeti. The cooler might not have been filled with ice, leading to a significant decrease in ice retention. To get a better idea of real-life results, we did some of our in-house tests. Our go-to method is to fill the cooler approximately ½ full with ice and leave it outside. We will then open it every half hour or so to emulate real-life use. The results were as follows: The major issue here is that, despite the decision to use stainless steel hinges (which is a good one), Coleman decided to screw these directly into the plastic and not provide a strap to hold the lid open. The result of this is that when you open it and apply any significant force to the lid you will slowly pull out the screws holding the strap down! This can be a huge headache and essentially ruin the cooler much faster than we would have hoped.

Should You Buy the Coleman Xtreme 5-Day?

The Coleman Xtreme and the Yeti Tundra are two of the most popular outdoor coolers. Which one are the best coolers? The hinges and handles on the Coleman feel cheap. The hinges especially are thin, flimsy pieces of plastic that I can see easily breaking with consistent use and sun exposure. It’s sturdy enough to be used as the main step into and out of our van while traveling. It doesn’t break, even if multiple adults or children are sitting or standing on it simultaneously. Ice Retention

The Coleman, on the other side, has a pop-off plug that doesn’t instill confidence. Although it won’t pop out on its own, someone could accidentally break it loose and cause accidental draining. Although the drain plug on the Coleman Xtreme may not be perfect, it is unlikely. Latches Most people don't need their cooler to be bear proof and most people don't need to keep ice for over a week, they can just spend some money and get some more ice from the local store or gas station. Although it sounds absurd, it is just a cooler, but it makes me feel great, which you won’t get from the Coleman. The Xtreme Marine line is Coleman’s updated and improved offering for those in the market for marine coolers. They come with the patented Thermozone insulation but in higher amounts than the conventional Coleman marine products. Also, upgrades to the frame itself have been implemented which results in a slimmer, more aesthetic body while also being much more rigid. There are multiple selections of shapes and sizes. The larger sizes can come with either 4 molded cup holders while the smaller ones come with 2 and all sizes come with carrying handles. Sizes available include 28, 100, 120, and 150 quarts and all products are made of plastic. Insulation Ability – The Yeti has a single pin metal hinge, meaning it has one strong piece of metal that holds the lid to the body of the cooler. It's extremely sturdy and unlikely to break.
