Description

There is no need to prune Sarcococca at all. Providing the soil remains a little moist, and they have shelter from cold winds, they will grow almost anywhere including full sun if required. Sarcococca ( sweet box or Christmas box) [1] [2] is a genus of 11 species of flowering plants in the box family Buxaceae, native to eastern and southeastern Asia and the Himalayas. They are slow-growing, monoecious, evergreen shrubs 1–2m (3–7ft) tall. The leaves are borne alternately, 3–12cm long and 1–4cm broad. Flowers: Flower Color: White Flower Inflorescence: Raceme Flower Value To Gardener: Fragrant Showy Flower Bloom Time: Spring Winter Flower Shape: Tubular Flower Description: Fragrant milky white flowers blossom in late winter through early spring. Unisexual, apetalous (without petals) flowers in tassel-like axillary racemes (females with 3 stigmas located below males with 4-6 stamens). Sarcococca je općenito robusna i otporna biljka i rijetko je napadaju paraziti i gljivice. Međutim, može biti zaražena kohinelom .

Drought-tolerant sweet box may alsobe planted as underlings beneath large shrubs and trees as well as dark, shaded areas between buildings and entryways – they thrive in cities – and under low branching evergreens such as conifers. Possibly a more open form of growth too, though that depends on where it is growing. Ova biljka zahtijeva često i redovito zalijevanje i u proljeće i u ljeto, osim kišnog razdoblja. Prije vrućine bilo bi poželjno malčirati . Na taj se način biljci može zajamčiti prava razina vlage. oplodnjaVarieties of Sarcococca that flower later than the standard S. confusa (which begins flowering in December) include Sarcococca hookeriana var. digyna. Flowers are flushed with plum at the base. It is an upright shrub, typically reaching a height of from four to six feet, flowering from February to April. This plant produces delicate flowers between December and February that have a powerful honey-like fragrance. The heady perfume carries some distance so it is very welcoming in the drab days of winter. The White Christmas Box are easy to grow due to a number of factors; they are somewhat drought tolerant, fairly low growing at 60cm and they even make good shrubs for patio pots where the fragrance can be enjoyed. They are also superb as specimen plants, ground cover or low hedges when established (they can be pruned). Zbunjena sarkokoka potječe iz južnoazijskih šuma i cvjeta zimi, proizvodeći malene, bijele, vrlo mirisne cvjetove. Tada se pojavljuju koštunjače, crni plodovi . Sarcococca ruscifolia

Kada sve biljke pređu u fazu mirovanja, ova biljka počinje opijati cijeli vrt slatkim mirisom svojih cvjetova. Upravo iz tog razloga, često ga nalazimo glavnim junakom ukrasnih živih ograda i granica. Add that personal touch with our bespoke gift wrapping service and choose from one of our luxurious but also natural looking wrapping papers. You can choose from 3 different colours: cherry red, pine green or antique gold, including a matching ribbon. We will also enclose a card – suitable for the occasion - with your own personal message. Collected in the hilly Hunan region of China by the revered British plantsman Roy Lancaster, it is a specimen for collectors. ‘Dragon’s Gate’ has the advantage of early flowering and a compact shape ideal for small gardens, but it is less hardy than the others, requiring some winter protection. Christmas Box does best in part shade in organically rich, acidic, well drained soil. Once established, it required limited watering. It does prefer shade and placement in full sun can lead the leaves to turn yellow. Established plants have some drought tolerance and are cold hardy to about -10 F. You can prune the shrub in spring after flowering to maintain an attractive shape and desired height. Even if it wasn’t just about the only thing around at this time of year that offers top-flight perfume, as well as elegant looks, Sarcococca would deserve to be grown more. Added to its sensory appeal for humans, sweet box (also known as “fragrant sweetbox”) is a reliable source of nectar and pollen for solitary pollinators. A mix of earlier and later varieties will keep all forms of life happy in the cold days between December and April. Sweet Box is a shade-loving, evergreen, low shrub that matures to about 5 feet high and 6 feet wide. The plant spreads slowly by rhizomes to form a colony and does best in shady areas of the landscape. The dark green evergreen leaves provide an attractive winter interest with small, fragrant white flowers that bloom in the spring. Sweet box is drought tolerant, but leaves can lose their luster and become yellowish if grown in sun. It is particularly resistant to damage by deer. The genus name comes from the Greek words sarkos meaning flesh and kokkos meaning a berry in reference to the fleshy fruits. The species name honors Sir Joseph Hooker (1817-1911), a British botanist and explorer who was a director of Kew Gardens
