Our method of side-by-side comparison testing reveals the strengths and weaknesses of every product so that the only job you have is to choose the best travel pillow based on your needs and budget. Every travel neck pillow on this list has been independently tested and reviewed in our office by our editors Charley Ward and Lauren Burvill. Though the cover of the Evolution S3 is easy to remove for washing, it is a bit more challenging to get back over the pillow when it's time to use it again. I think the J-pillow is a great choice if you have a window seat on a plane, or are traveling by car or train.

With a memory foam design that is very similar to the Travelrest NEST, the S3 comes with straps to securely attach this pillow to a headrest. The included travel bag has a large, zippered opening, which means you won't have to wrestle this portable pillow into its stuff sack upon arrival. We rank products relative to one another so that you as the consumer can directly compare the pros and cons of each. With that in mind, a reasonable question to ask is: What good is a pillow if it doesn't offer a solid level of support? They also need to be compact, lightweight and easy to clean — no small feat for a humble travel accessory! The Sunany Inflatable pillow is just as packable but weighs a touch more and isn't quite as simple to deflate. It also comes in a sleek cylindrical bag that, when clipped onto your carry-on luggage, you’d never even know there was a travel pillow inside. To find out, I bought a wide range of travel pillows and took them on a car trip with a couple of friends to test them on different body shapes. It doesn’t take much for me to fall asleep in transit, although I often wake myself up with a tipping head. It comes with an attached strap that you can tether around the top of your seat to keep it in place.

Not only was it defective with one of the clips missing from one of the sides, but it arrived DIRTY and with DROOL all over it.But it does have a carry bag you can squish it into, and then hang on the outside of your hand luggage. Why we love it: You've probably seen the Trtl pillow popping up on your social media feeds, hailed as a gamechanging neck pillow that looks more like a scarf than a pillow. The foam in it is extremely comfortable, but what I love most is that the back of the pillow is flat, so you can sit right up against your seat, unlike the typical travel pillow styles which tend to be round and tilt your neck down slightly. This overall score is based on test results analyzing: comfort (60%), packing (25%), and ease of cleaning (15%). Similar to the trtl pillow but padded with soft microfleece and covered with microsuede, BCozzy's wrap-around design offers plenty of flexibility in terms of how you wear it.

It folds down relatively flat, taking up almost no space in your luggage, and one of our taller testers loved its sturdy support. Alternatively, the Go Neck Pillow can be left in its 360-degree position and wrapped around your luggage’s handle. One thing I’ll want to try is to adjust the straps into the configuration that would position it lower. Despite my doubts, I splurged on an Evolution S3 just before a trip from Winnipeg to Barcelona in a last-ditch try to get some shut-eye on an overnight flight. And while inflatability is cool in concept, in practice it feels like trying to sleep on a fuzzy balloon.

The real standout of this design is the flat back, which is not only great for maintaining a healthy posture but also means you can fold the pillow in half and wear it on one side. The Cabeau Evolution S3 is our overall favorite pillow and a particular favorite among both front and side-sleepers. We also noted how the pillows’ covers felt against our skin and then slipped those same covers off and put them through a machine wash cycle. The Ecosafeter travel pillow is a memory foam style with a slight “hump” shape that’s designed to help relax the Cervical spine. Both are machine washable, come with a soft 100 per cent cotton pillow case and roll up into compact travel bags – the mini fits into a cylindrical bag that’s 30cm by 11cm.
