Description

Coastal Productions was created by Robson Green and Sandra Jobling in 1997. Their main objective was to create and produce quality shows in east Britain, creating jobs and giving voice to that area of the country. It blows every CSI, cop procedural made in the US totally out of the water. Wire in the Blood is based on the books of noted and award winning Scottish crime writer Val McDermid. In the towns and villages of East Yorkshire, there wasn't any shortage of crime. But it was all low-level stuff. Her inspectors and sergeants were more than capable of dealing with it, even in the small cities of Holm and Traskham and the North Sea port of Seaford where she was based. Her junior officers didn't want her running around on their tails. After all, what did a city girl like her know about sheep rustling? Or counterfeit cargo lading bills? Besides which, they all knew perfectly well that when the new DCI turned up on the job, she wasn't so much interested in finding out what was going down as she was in sussing out who was up to scratch and who was busking it, who might be on the sauce and who might be on the take. And they were right. It was taking longer than she'd anticipated, but she was gradually assembling a picture of what her team was like and who was capable of what. The only other item that cluttered the desk now was a lengthy memo from the Home Office. In the dry civil service language that could render Tarantino dull, it announced the formal launch of the National Offender Profiling Task Force. ‘Under the supervision of Commander Paul Bishop, the task force will be led by Home Office clinical psychologist and Senior Profiler Dr Tony Hill. Initially, the task force will consist of a further six experienced detectives seconded to work with Dr Hill and Commander Bishop under Home Office guidelines.'

The Wire in the Blood (Tony Hill and Carol Jordan): Book 2

Torment, Synchronicity and The Mermaids singing were my favourite episodes, but the standard in general is very high, only the final, US set episode didn't quite work for me. There is a certain formula each episode follows. There are multiple scantily clad young women who get brutally murdered. There will be many scenes of hookers and trashy bar people. Police are rude to Dr. Tony Hill and refuse to work with him. They are gradually won over. People who are innocent are very rude to the police and refuse to co-operate for no apparent reason. Dr. Hill comes up with detail after detail about the perpetrator, without any more explanation of how he did it than Sylvia Browne, psychic, ever gives. The criminals are deeply psychologically twisted, far more so than any person you have ever encountered, even in the newspapers. There is a last minute dash to rescue some young woman being held by a psychopath. She is always rescued.

The Wire in the Blood is truly frightening, McDermid’s capacity to enter the warped mind of a deviant criminal is shiveringly convincing, and she is equally adept at portraying the interactions, allegiances and petty jealousies that exist among the investigators. Hill, driven and disturbed, is an appealing and original character. This is a writer who just gets better and better. A constant theme is Carol's, and later Alex's, struggle with their senior officers, who are often less trusting of Tony's eccentric methods and far-fetched theories than Carol and Alex. There is also a romantic storyline showing a growing development in Tony's relationships with both Carol and later Alex. Whilst starting as friendships, both detectives begin to develop romantic feelings for Tony, although these feelings never develop into a relationship. Val McDermid's The Wire in the Blood is "a superb psychological thriller" (Cosmopolitan), the basis for ITV's series of the same name. Rape Leads to Insanity: All mention of Jan from "Torment" ( The Torment of Others in book form) being a Psycho Lesbian is excised from the TV adaptation. She's given a Freudian Excuse of having been raped when she was a teenager, which she repeatedly and sadistically recreates. Student/Teacher Romance: Laura wants one with Tony in "Still She Cries." Tony of course, is completely oblivious until it blows up in his face.

Torture for Fun and Information: Tony, of all people, in "Synchronicity". He convinces a suspect that porridge and jam from the canteen in a plastic bag is actually human brain tissue, and makes the kid vomit. Clearly, the kid is not their sniper. Tony suspects a killer is luring unhappy children to their deaths when the bodies of three boys are found in different locations in Bradfield. Each of the victims had suffered abuse. Could the killer believe he or she is righting wrongs and alleviating suffering by ending their lives? Tony and Carol's investigation closes in on the work of a local minister. With another child's life at stake, will they be able to ensnare the murderer?Intelligent, convincing and compelling, The Wire in the Blood takes risks with plot and character, undercutting all the normal devices of thriller structure in a highly readable and scary book. If that happened, he doubted his capacity to function. And if he couldn't function, he couldn't do his job. And that was too important to let go. What he did saved people's lives. He was good at it, probably one of the best there had ever been because he truly understood the dark side. To risk the work would be the most irresponsible thing he could ever do, especially now when the whole future of the newly created National Offender Profiling Task Force lay in his hands. Tony also finds himself a prime suspect in a police investigation when a woman who tries to seduce him is found dead. Work was always the perfect excuse, of course. For two years, he'd been toiling on behalf of the Home Office on a feasibility study to see whether it would be useful or possible to create a national task force of trained psychological profilers, a hit squad capable of moving in on complex cases and working with the investigative teams to improve the rate and speed of clean-up. It had been a job that had required all the clinical and diplomatic skills he'd developed over years of working as a psychologist in secure mental hospitals. What the Hell, Hero?: Carol gives Tony hell in "Bad Seed" for withholding information that almost got a team member killed and might lead to their killer committing suicide.

The Wire in the Blood: Book 2 by Val McDermid | Goodreads

Tony and Carol investigate when a 500-year-old skeleton in unearthed while foundations are being excavated for a hotel extension. However, underneath the body, they find two more modern corpses. And when a journalist vanishes, and the hotel is burnt to the ground, Tony suspects the suspect may be obsessed with Joan of Arc and killing imagined heretics. D.C. Paula McIntyre ( Emma Handy) is a lively and feisty young detective. She is not fazed easily and is keen to take on more responsibility and pleased to have strong role models in Carol and later, Alex. She also has a deep respect for Tony after he saved her life while on the job. Very seldom will you find a British murder mystery TV series of this quality were "every single episode is great" not just OK, but great. In the 2017 novel Insidious Intent [2] Dr Hill is imprisoned for murder, having stabbed serial killer Tom Elliot to prevent Carol Jordan from doing so.Filming is now under way for a sixth series of WITB. Again, we’ve got a terrific set of scripts and from what I’ve seen so far, performances to match. The special that was filmed in Texas over the summer, Prayer of the Bone, will be aired early in the New Year, so keep an eye on the UK TV schedules and make sure you don’t miss it. I guarantee it’ll have you sweating in your seat.” The gritty films see eccentric clinical psychologist Dr Tony Hill (Robson Green) facing his criminal nemesis – with devastating consequences for both him and his police colleague DI Fielding (played by Simone Lahbib). Based on Val McDermid’s best selling novel The Last Temptation, “ Falls the Shadow” sees a confused Tony named as the main suspect when an Experimental Psychologist’s mutilated body is discovered in her hotel room, with Dr Hill’s blood and fingerprints all over the crime scene. Nevertheless, this dark, atmospheric series is compelling and absorbing to watch. I can't understand one word that Simone Lahbib says, but I still enjoy the show. Robson Green, as the thoughtful, quirky Tony Hill, is marvelous.

Torment" is an adaptation of the book, The Torment of Others, and as such shares the same killer: Jan Shields, the police officer who manipulates and brainwashes weak-willed and mentally ill men into brutally torturing and then killing prostitutes. The killer is given a Freudian Excuse, though: she murders by proxy because she herself was raped as a teenager and she demands the men enact the crime that was done to her. I watched all 6 seasons and 24 episodes. I rather enjoy dark, gruesome mysteries and Wire in the Blood isn't just that, it's also intense, VERY INTENSE! As well a graphic. Truth in Television: All over the place when it comes to the crimes themselves, particularly the psychology and profiling of the serial killers, which is almost brutally accurate - sometimes even to Reality Is Unrealistic lengths. Robson Green ( Soldier Soldier, Northern Lights) stars as dysfunctional psychologist Dr Tony Hill in hit ITV1 series, Wire in the Blood. Based on the characters of prize-winning author Val McDermid, Dr Hill’s unique insight into the fractured mind proves invaluable in the hunt for the murderers and rapists terrorising the northern town of Bradfield. Robson Green has to confront a cannibal killer with a deadly vendetta in a new series of the hard-hitting drama, Wire in the Blood.Nobody moves around inside the messy heads of serial killers like Dr Tony Hill. Now heading up the recently founded National Profiling Task Force, he sets his team an exercise: they are given the details of thirty missing teenagers and asked to use their new techniques to discover whether there is a sinister link between any of the cases. Only one officer comes up with a concrete theory, but it is ridiculed by the rest of her group … until a killer murders and mutilates one of their number. Socially awkward and unorganised, and with his private life spilling from his favoured plastic bags, Tony Hill’s unique insight into the fractured mind remains invaluable to Bradfield C.I.D. as the close knit team continue to hunt for the killers, rapists and sadists stalking their streets. And, in this series, nobody is safe. Tony tends to solve his cases using a mix of role-play, first person analysis and intuition. This approach often unsettles those around him and in the TV series, it isn't until Carol realises his worth in a practical setting that Bradfield CID embraces his ongoing assistance. Within the novels, Tony has an established professional standing that earns him a place at the head of the National Profiling Task Force after he conducted the feasibility study that resulted in its formation. Even amongst the UK's best such as Prime suspect or A Touch of Frost. While undoubtedly there great TV series some movie episodes fall short of expectations. But not Wire in the Blood. Only one officer comes up with a theory, but it's too wild... that is, until one of their number is murdered and mutilated.
