Prices valid in stores (all including VAT) until close of business on 29th November 2023. (Some of these web prices are cheaper than in-store, so please mention that you've seen these offers online.) The set’s mid-range status is evidenced by the rear panel connections. We get just a trio of HDMIs, plus two USBs ports, digital optical audio out, component AV and Ethernet. There’s also a CI slot for those that need it.

Now up to its fifth iteration, Panasonic’s My Home Screen smart platform has proved remarkably resilient – especially since we had a feeling it might give way to the Android OS early on. But Panasonic has made small incremental tweaks, retaining its inherent simplicity while improving usability, including some new contextual menus to help search and curate content. However, basic functionality is unchanged. Opt for the low impact Minimum setting and you’ll get the benefits of smooth motion and retained detail, without overly intrusive artefacts. Michael Bay’s madcap Netflix Original 6 Underground is awash with fast action and busy scenes, but the HX800 has no problem keeping sequences clear and lucid. Panasonic has openly stated that at launch, the TVs will only display half the vertical resolution for 4K HFR and 4K@120Hz VRR with a firmware update to arrive later in the year to restore 4K HFR fully. An announcement on an update for 4K@120Hz VRR will be made “in due time”.The panel itself stands on a central singular pedestal, so there’s no need to scour furniture catalogues looking for an ultra wide AV bench. The successor to the excellent GX800 (2019) is here, and offers a near-perfect trade-off of price and performance. As a mid-range set with strong pictures, Atmos compatible audio, and universal HDR support – albeit with a HCX chip rather than the HCX Intelligent Pro processor – it's hard to go wrong here. This Panasonic makes good use of its ultra-thin, edge-lit form factor. It combines a wafer thin profile with a cool glass-on-frame design – the panel sits on top of the bezel, rather than be surrounded by it. It looks really neat. The other main difference the 48-inch models have compared to their bigger siblings is mounting. Although the bigger versions of the JZ1500 and JZ1000 have Panasonics popular adjustable swivel stand, the 48-inch JZ1500 has a central, fixed pedestal, while the 48-inch JZ1000 and JZ980 have a pair of adjustable feet to allow for the addition of a soundbar. The JX800 LCD TV will be the first Panasonic TV to feature the Android TV operating system too, and we wouldn't be surprised for more of its sets to do so in the future.

Not only will the JZ1500 come in cheaper than the JZ2000, it's thinner, too, to the tune of over 5cm. Smart connectivity comes via Panasonic’s own My Home Screen platform, now up to v5.0. It remains intuitive and easily customisable, with solid streaming TV service support. The 65-inch and 55-inch models don’t have a swivel stand to let viewers angle the screen freely, featuring a fixed pedestal instead, and the 48-inch has the same adjustable feet as the JZ1000 version. The JZ980 will be available from June 2021.Only the 65-inch and 55-inch JZ1500 get the upgrade, though; the new 48-inch model (more on which below) has a standard, non-Professional Edition panel.
