Description

The Orange Girl was my introduction to Jostein Gaarder; Thanks to my friend, ST for suggesting Gaarder to me. The Orange Girl was the perfect book to read after finishing Ulysses. A beautiful old French girl’s name referring to the extremely expensive yellow-orange spice, saffron. The author] pops a Big Question here, but the leisurely way he prepares readers for it may lose most of them.... As he reads, Georg intersperses reactions and remarks about his own life, deliberately creating a collaborative story that draws together previously unsuspected connections with his barely remembered parent. He closes with his Answer; readers who get that far will be left to mull over their own. ( Grades 6-9.) —John Peters, New York Public Library

Orange's gender is confirmed to be Male. In Chapter 1 Night 3's introduction dialogue, Red refers to Orange with male pronouns. Orange is a reptilian Rainbow Friend reminiscent of a reptile or dinosaur with orange skin. He is characterized by two bulging eyes and two rows of sharp, conical teeth lining his elongated jaws. When running, he appears anthropomorphic and makes a pitter-patter sound whilst walking on his hind legs with his arms stretched out. Another lovely orange flower name, Tigerlily, was also the princess in the original Peter Pan story.

The truth is that I feel totally helpless, or totally inconsolable, to be more honest. I’m not trying to hide it, but it’s something you’re not to worry about.” I cannot explain in simple words how this book has helped untie a knot in my heart and mind, but it has, and for that reason, I wanted to do away with Shehneela's copy altogether. I was unsuccessful. But the great thing about this book was that it helped me let go. And I did. As Georg soon discovers, "The Orange Girl" is not simply a story, but a riddle from the past that centres around an incident from his father's youth. In the story, it is revealed that Jan Olav had once boarded a tram and had taken notice of a beautiful girl who had been clutching a bag of oranges. When tram abruptly jolted, the girl's oranges were dispersed. Jan Olav attempted to collect the oranges, but found that the girl had already disembarked from the tram. The story is a request for his son to solve the mystery of the orange girl's identity. Working with students: Allow students to familiarize themselves with the following elements from the book: the Hubble telescope, the United Nations, falling in love, Oslo and Norway, the Frognerpark (contains the Vigeland sculpture park), writing a will, their recollections (if any) from when they were three years of age. This is a wonderful Italian name for the “ orange blossom”. It has several equally beautiful variants like Nerolia, Neroli, and Neroly. What is the point of The Orange Girl? What is it trying to say? Recall Georg's father's question: has Georg given his answer by the end of the book? Orange, Cyan, and Yellow are the only Rainbow Friends that are different types of dinosaurs so far. Orange vaguely resembles dinosaurs such as coelophysis or velociraptor. Questions developed by Linda Johnsen, a librarian in Norway, and sent to us by Conrad, a long-term LitLovers friend. Thanks to both Linda and Conrad.) Named for a verbena plant with clusters of bright happy pink to orange flowers, this is another uncommon name that is quite rare and quite different with a botanical Latin base. 12 – Marigold

We hope you have found a wonderful name in this list that encompasses everything you hope for your child now and in the future. Imagine that you were on the threshold of this fairytale, sometime billions of years ago when everything was created. And you were able to choose whether you wanted to be born to a life on this planet at some point. You wouldn’t know when you were going to be born, nor how long you’d live for, but at any event it wouldn’t be more than a few years. All you’d know was that, if you chose to come into the world at some point, you’d also have to leave it again one day and go away from everything. This might cause you a good deal of grief, as lots of people think that life in the great fairytale is so wonderful that the mere thought of it ending can bring tears to their eyes. Things can be so nice here that it’s terribly painful to think that at some point the days will run out. What would you have chosen, if there had been some higher power that had gave you the choice? Perhaps we can imagine some sort of cosmic fairy in this great, strange fairytale. What you have chosen to live a life on earth at some point, whether short or long, in a hundred thousand or a hundred million years? Or would you have refused to join in the game because you didn’t like the rules? (...) I asked myself the same question maybe times during the past few weeks. Would I have elected to live a life on earth in the firm knowledge that I’d suddenly be torn away from it, and perhaps in the middle of intoxicating happiness? (...) Well, I wasn’t sure what I would have chosen. (...) If I’d chosen never to the foot inside the great fairytale, I’d never have known what I’ve lost. Do you see what I’m getting at? Sometimes it’s worse for us human beings to lose something dear to us than never to have had it at all.”A Hawaiian name that means “precious” or “orange tree”. There is also another origin that is Gaelic, Ailin meaning “ beautiful” or a “small stone”. The word originated in the Himilayas and spread across the Asian region as these fruit trees became more popular. 28 – Garfield At fifteen, Georg comes upon a letter written to him by his dying father, to be read when he comes of age. Their two voices make a fascinating dialogue as Georg comes to know the father he can barely remember, then is challenged by him to answer some profound questions. This is also the name of the main character in Netflix’s teen Drama, 13 Reasons Why. 66 – Clementine
