And when all else fails, will celebrity-scented candles, smashed avocados and Instagram filters save us? I was worried I wouldn't remember what happened in the first one seeing as it has been over 2 years since I read it, but you're instantly thrown into it. Whilst I'm aware this book is also a fiction and should be a fantasy, it really holds a mirror up to us as a society.

Read more about the condition New: A new, unread, unused book in perfect condition with no missing or damaged pages.I thought SOD IT myself this morning as I ditched ‘a bit of a sleeve’ and let the bingo wings out and proud on my forty something own body! The story takes us through Nell's ups and downs, from her eccentric group of friends to her intriguing relationship with Edward, the boyfriend who maintains spreadsheets for everything.

It talks about the negatives of being a woman in society, making it so familiar and relatable, but shows that you don't have to be perfect to be perfect. Nell continues to navigate her forties, feeling like a failure, mourning the life she left behind and trying to move forwards but something is holding her back and in this novel she has to face that. It also annoys me that in society, if you're 25-40 and you're single/childless/unemployed (delete as applicable), you're deemed a failure. And with it all came the realization that lots of people felt like a bit of f**k up, she wasn't alone: she'd found her tribe. No old lady hair’ should have been included in our wedding vows as my husband has made me promise this on numerous occasions.there’s the ‘unexpected baggage’, things you thought you’d dealt with and suddenly find that you haven’t. Galvenokārt man ne līdz galam patika tas, ka viss Penelopes un Edvarda attiecībās notika tādā kā paātrinājumā. But whilst the first book was special because of being so relatable when you are in your forties, this one now is a bit more classic chick-lit.

instead of Nell just writing an obituary column and interviewing a family member to do so as the book has it, in the show she can see and talk to the dead people. The pre-loved books are carefully cleaned and maintained offering a wide variety of general and specialist titles from children's to adults. I absolutely loved this book, her first Confessions of a Forty Something F*** Up ended up being one of my favourite books so I knew I had to read this one, and it was just as good. Amid the laughter, tears, and unexpected turns, the author masterfully tackles deeper themes with sensitivity, giving the characters depth and authenticity. The novel explores society’s attitude to age, to women, to parenthood and loss, to family and relationships – of all kinds –and the importance of friendships and of talking. I enjoyed the main characters in this book, especially Cricket, Nell's octogenarian best friend, who definitely doesn't act her age and doesnt care what others think! It all makes relationships much harder than when we were carefree teenagers, setting out in life, and as all teenagers will tell you, that’s hard enough. Whilst sharing the flat with not only Edward and their dog, but also his two teenage sons, a surprise pregnancy test throws Nell's world into a spin. Third and probably my biggest complaint of all (and once again going by the trailer I watched) by going with a US network they lost all the British humour.
